SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An exclusive ABC 10News/San Diego Union-Tribune poll shows many City of San Diego voters are still undecided on some important races this November.The poll was conducted by SurveyUSA from Aug. 28-31, five weeks before mail-in voting begins.According to the poll, one of the closest races is for San Diego mayor, as both Democratic candidates -- City Councilwoman Barbara Bry and Assemblyman Todd Gloria -- are within a few percentage points of each other.The poll shows Bry ahead of Gloria 37 percent to 34 percent, with 29 percent undecided.Political analyst Kyra Greene told ABC 10News, “At this point in an election cycle, you would fully expect there would be more differentiation between the two candidates, but I think it’s a tough year because campaigns aren’t able to get out, talk to voters, so there are just a lot more people who are undecided.”Gloria’s campaign representatives said of the poll: “Our campaign has completed two polls recently and both show Todd with a double-digit lead. We are confident in their accuracy and will continue to run a campaign that focuses on finding solutions to the big issues facing San Diego."Bry’s campaign responded: “These results illustrate the dramatic shift in momentum since the March primary, when Assemblyman Gloria received 41 percent of the vote compared to Councilmember Bry's 23 percent.”In the race for San Diego City Attorney, the latest poll shows at least half of San Diego voters are undecided, but incumbent Mara Elliott leads challenger Cory Briggs by 10 percent.Several key ballot measures are set to be decided on Nov. 3, including Measure E and Measure B.Measure E would change the existing height limit on buildings in San Diego’s Midway District.The latest poll numbers are close -- 31 percent in favor of the measure -- but Greene said past voter trends could be an indicator.“The most common thing if people are not sure is they vote against the measure, which makes sense. They assume why change something if I’m not entirely sure what it’s about?” Greene said.Measure B would create an independent citizen’s review board to review actions taken by police.According to the poll, voters are showing clear support for the ballot measure, with 55 percent in favor.Greene said, “In part, it’s because it appeals to people across the spectrum of opinions about police accountability.”Ultimately, Greene said she believes results might not be completely clear on Election Day.“Given that people will be mailing in their ballot, we will have even more uncertainty on election night about which races and more questions about how soon they will be decided,” Greene said. 2666

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A teenager was injured after jumping from an Uber driver's vehicle on Interstate 8 in Mission Valley late Tuesday.The 13-year-old boy, who's from Yucalan, Mexico, was traveling on westbound Interstate 8 in an Uber ordered by his father at about 9:20 p.m., according to San Diego CHP officials. Due to a language barrier with the Uber driver, the teenager decided to jump from the vehicle on the transition ramp to northbound State route 163, CHP officials said.The teen was taken to Rady Children's Hospital with minor injuries, according to San Diego Police.Based on the statements taken by officers, CHP said they are not pursuing the incident as a criminal matter at this time. 707

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A warning for all homeowners after what looked like a yard sale turned out to be an elaborate theft. Several men staying in a vacation rental near La Jolla pulled up in a moving truck, stealing everything inside. Surveillance cameras caught men moving things through a Birdrock-area garage and into a truck, but the men aren’t movers. They were reportedly staying in the vacation rental, but according to the homeowner had checked in using fake credentials, fake credit cards and fake IDs. "As soon as I found out I went and told all of my employees, and will definitely spread the word that there is a crew going around doing something like this,” said Tyler Trowbridge, a contractor at Trowbridge Custom Floors.Trowbridge is a contractor working in the neighborhood. He’s had tools stolen while working at home and knows how the homeowner is feeling. "You don't wish it upon anybody, it's their personal belongings and their home was invaded. It's a breach of privacy and an invasion in your world."In this case, it wasn’t small belongings either. The owner says the men cleared the place out, taking everything from furniture and TVs to the stove. "When I talked to the actual owner, it was a lot more intense than I thought."What’s more, the owner says meth was left inside. "The fact that there were drugs in the house too, leads me to believe that it might happen again too."La Jolla Vacation Rentals is the property manager. 10News asked them for an interview, but they wouldn’t do it. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego native made history at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, becoming the first above-the-knee double amputee to finish what many consider the world's most grueling endurance race. Roderick Sewell crossed the finish line of the 140-mile triathlon race in 16 hours and 26 minutes and immediately embraced his mother. The two lived in San Diego homeless shelters when Sewell was growing up."It's amazing to see how far we've come in 20 years," said the 27-year-old.It's even more amazing when you consider that Sewell had never completed a marathon before Saturday's competition. The Ironman triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 114-mile bike ride, and ends with a 26.2-mile marathon.On top of that, Sewell had only six months to train after receiving an invitation from the Ironman organization."I had no bike. I didn't own one" until a few months before the competition, said Sewell. Sewell raced with strategy help from his longtime friend and mentor Rudy Garcia-Tolson. Garcia-Tolson became the first above-the-knee double amputee to finish any Ironman 10 years ago."Back when I first met Roderick, he was about 8 years old. He was actually petrified of the water," Garcia-Tolson said. "Whatever life is throwing at you, mental or physical challenges, you have to fight and get over those and strive for better."Sewell, whose legs were amputated at 2 years old because he was born without tibias, credits much of his success to the San Diego-based Challenged Athletes Foundation. He was introduced to the group at 8 years old."I didn't do any kind of sports. I wasn't very physically active," he said. "And then I started with them and got started in every sport I could."CAF gave Sewell his first running blades at a time when he and his mother were living in homeless shelters."If I can inspire someone, it's a blessing," he said. "When people come up to me and tell me their stories, to me their stories seem more mind-blowing than my own," Sewell added. 2009

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- According to a recently-released autopsy, a combination of cocaine, alcohol and blunt chest impact caused a man to die during a punching game in March downtown.The medical examiner ruled the death of 27-year-old Corey Poole an accident Monday. According to authorities, Poole went out drinking at Jolt’n Joe’s downtown just before 1 a.m. with friends.Police said Poole and one of his friends then decided to have a punching contest. Poole and his friend then started “consensually sparring” and punching one another in the chest.RELATED: Man killed in Gaslamp Quarter punching game identifiedIt was then, according to police, that Poole fell to the ground and became unresponsive. Poole was taken to the hospital where he later died.Poole’s friend was also taken to the hospital for chest pain following the incident. 850
