"Ms. Mason voted in good faith that she could legally vote because she was never notified by any government agency that it was against the law to vote."Prosecutors argued that Mason either intended to vote illegally or should have been aware that she was not eligible to vote, according to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Across the country, YMCA locations are back in business.That means members are working out inside gyms again, doing everything from running on treadmills to lifting heavy weights.Now, in an effort to create an even safer environment for its members, the Downtown Denver YMCA is taking its group exercise classes outside.“My first priority inside before COVID and now with COVID is to keep them safe,” group exercise instructor Lamar Sims said about member safety.After reopening, Sims is leading a strength and conditioning class on the steps of the Colorado State Capitol Building.This former district attorney turned group exercise instructor isn’t sure how COVID-19 will impact his class sizes. But he’s absolutely sure that safety is a priority for the millions of YMCA members.“We’re working on making sure people are doing good spacing,” he said. “So, we are not going to have any of the partner type exercises, partner spotting, partner stretching that we used to do.”Infectious disease specialists say this kind of spacing is paramount during the pandemic.“If you’re able to have that distancing there’s less spread,” said Sheryl Zajdowicz, Ph.D., a biology professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver.Zajdowicz believes exercising is much safer outside than inside but says there are still several concerns with intense training in a group setting.“When you’re working out, you’re breathing heavier and potentially coughing and there’s still some risk that could be associated there,” she said.That risk, however, is worth it to some members.“There’s nothing like it,” Paul Garland said about group exercise classes. “This is the one thing that I miss the most about the whole shelter in place.”Garland says this kind of workout impacts his mind and his body.“The better I feel physically, the better I feel emotionally,” he said.Moving forward, the YMCA will continue to do group exercise classes outside as long as COVID-19 is still a concern. 1971

A wildfire burning in Arizona, just northeast of the Valley, is now the most massive fire actively burning in the country, according to officials.The wildfire has already demolished more than 114,000 acres, and it is just five percent contained, as of Thursday morning.The good news is no homes nor businesses have been destroyed, but some worry it is just a matter of time, as evacuations have been implemented in multiple towns.Fire crews say the wildfire has spread so rapidly and is difficult to contain because of the heat, low humidity, terrain, and high winds.The threat snuck up on Tonto Basin homeowners like Robyn Hill."I really wasn’t prepared for it. I thought the fire was too far away, and you are just kind of in disbelief," said Hill, who got the evacuation order Monday.Hill said she rushed home from her hair salon business in Payson once the alert came across her phone.She packed up the RV with her husband and two dogs, and they quickly left town."So when you got two hours to get your stuff and go. It would help if you were a little more prepared," she said. "I packed the bread and the peanut butter, but forgot the jelly."While the jelly makes for a good joke, leaving home was no laughing matter."You kind of shed a few tears as you leave the house because it’s my home, it’s my little paradise," said Hill, who tells KNXV she had just finished adding a pool and re-doing her garden and yard during the pandemic slowdown.While Hill and others are evacuating their homes, the Red Cross has been setting up shelters."[Monday] we had over a dozen people check-in," said Jim Gilloon, with the Arizona Red Cross.
