SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego State Men's Basketball Team sought to keep their undefeated season as they faced off against Boise State Saturday.SDSU won 83-65 and is 17-0 mid-way through the season.Saturday's game was sold out, the third time it's been standing room only this season.The student section roared during the game, chanting and cheering on the team. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego LGBT Community Center (The Center) has decided it will no longer allow armed, uniformed officers at its facilities and events. “Last year, The Center heard from over 140 Black community members at our Town Hall for the Black LGBTQ Community. Many spoke of the pain and hurt that is caused when one does not feel welcome in our LGBTQ community, including at The Center.Overwhelmingly, we heard that the lack of policy restricting the presence of armed, uniformed law enforcement officers is a barrier to the Black LGBTQ community feeling welcomed at The Center,” said CEO Cara Dessert in a letter posted to The Center’s website. I think we’ve come a long way, but we’re not where we need to be,” said community activist Charles Brown.“I’m black, and I’m gay. So am I a target? I think I am. He said it took many years and hard work for the LGBTQ community to build that relationship.“Let’s sit down and talk about how we can make sure we can help protect Black Lives Matters and make a difference with the help of the police department instead of saying ‘no we don’t want you because you wear a gun and a uniform,’” said Phillips.“If people are out killing our Black brothers and sisters in America, they should be arrested, tried, and punished to the full extent of the law. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - This year Comic-Con celebrates its 50th anniversary. Only five people have attended the convention every single year. One of them is noted author and television writer Mark Evanier.Evanier began writing comic books when he was a teenager in the 1960's, including the comics featuring characters like Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny. His mentor was comic book legend Jack Kirby, who created or co-created many of the genre's most famous characters, such as Captain America, the X-Men, and the Incredible Hulk. It was Kirby who first told Evanier that a group of fans in San Diego were planning a comic convention at the El Cortez Hotel."I thought it was a great idea," Evanier told 10News in an interview from his office in Los Angeles. "I had no idea it would get as large as it did. I thought maybe we'll have 400, 500 people there."While Evanier thought it would be a niche convention, even in its early days Kirby saw the potential. "He said this a long time ago when this was a nutty idea to say. He said Comic-Con is going to take over the city of San Diego each year," Evanier recalled.Early supporters of the convention included Marvel creator Stan Lee and science fiction author Ray Bradbury. Comic-Con moved into the San Diego Convention Center in 1991, soon expanding to take over the ballrooms at the surrounding hotels.Evanier has had a big role at the convention over the 50 years. He is a frequent moderator of panels and a guest of honor at many events. He believes the convention will remain in San Diego for the long term (Comic-Con International recently signed an extention through 2024). This is despite the fact that Comic-Con is facing growing competition for the biggest stars and events. Other conventions have launched in cities across the country, and some companies, including Disney, have created their own events. "Yes, there are conventions that are trying to be bigger or wish they could be Comic-Con," Evanier said. "Those are all commercially run. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The sailor hit by a spinning helicopter blade earlier this week at MCAS Camp Pendleton has died.MCAS Camp Pendleton said the sailor died Saturday morning from injuries sustained after the spinning tail rotor blade of a UH-01Y Venom Marine helicopter struck him.The helicopter was on deck at MCAS Camp Pendleton when the incident occurred just after 6 p.m. Wednesday.RELATED: Sailor critically injured by spinning helicopter blade at MCAS Camp PendletonThe sailor was brought to Scripps La Jolla Medical Facility with critical injuries after the incident.Officials are withholding the sailor's name pending family notification. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- There is road rash on his forehead and a smile on his face. "Just hangin' in there, man."Julio Vazquez is in a hospital bed at U.C.S.D. Medical Center in Hillcrest, his broken leg in a cast from above the knee to his toes.  "The pain I have is in my right leg.  Once I move it, it's a crazy pain, really bad. My right rib, one is broken and when I raise my voice, it hurts really bad."It was Sunday night about midnight in Ocean Beach. He had pulled over to assist a stranded couple on the shoulder of Sunset Cliffs Blvd.  The Ocean Beach man was trying to help start their white Lexus when another car slammed into them. The impact peeled back the door of the Lexus and propelled Julio into the air, over his own car, and into the ditch.Paramedics were soon on-scene; as his wife and two young children watched.Vazquez was doing a good deed; and paying a price for it.  "Stuff happens. Doesn't make me feel bad. It's just something I do when I see somebody needs help."Now he needs help; could be off work for several months and people are responding.  A GoFundMe page was set up to help offset costs; asking ,000.    "It feels great!
