POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - Restaurants and bars in Poway are back in business after a boil water advisory forced them to shut down for nearly a week. The precautionary advisory was lifted Friday evening for the roughly 190 businesses. Mike Hamama owns Giant New York Pizza. He's still surprised it happened. "At first, I thought it was a joke, cause it's never happened after 32 years being in Poway," said Hamama.RELATED: Poway could face fines as water boil advisory continuesPoway's mayor and the Chamber of Commerce are launching restaurant month beginning on Wednesday. They're urging people across the county to come to Poway and "Eat big. Tip big."Business owners said they'll take all the help they can get."It's really bad, it's really bad . You're losing customers, and then when you open, it's going to be slow, cause it's not routine anymore," said Hamama. Hamama and roughly 20 other business owners paid the nearly 0 fee to get a modified permit from the health department, allowing them to open before the advisory was lifted, but with several restrictions. Wednesday, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors will discuss reimbursing owners for that fee. In another setback, Hamama and others learned their insurance won't cover their losses.RELATED: Poway server gets ,000 tip after restaurant reopens"They said nothing, you're not covered only for damage, and fire," said Hamama.George Nasrawi and his family own Victor's Kafe. Monday afternoon, they were busy catching up on catering orders."My main concern during this whole thing was the employees not being able to work, especially with the holidays coming up," said Nasrawi. The advisory was issued after some residents reported brown water coming out of their faucets. City officials say a backed-up storm drain spewed run-off into the city's clearwell reservoir during the recent storms. Business owners said they understand the need for the advisory, but questioned its length."You gotta have safety first, especially when it comes to water, you don't want another Flint Michigan thing," said Nasrawi. 2087

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) — The Christmas season means joy, lights, and of course Santa — just a few of the things you will find at Poway's annual Christmas at the Barn."I've had this store for 13 years," says Countryside Barn Co-owner Liz McNamara. "We've always done Christmas, but Christmas exploded for us about seven years ago."For two weekends in November, customers flock to their pop-up store, Christmas at the Barn. It's a Christmas haven for the holiday shopper."It's really become a big family tradition for our customers. They come with their friends, and we have three generations that shop together. We get customers coming from Palm Springs, Orange County, and from as far away as Las Vegas and Arizona," McNamara said. From Christmas ornaments and trees to gnomes, and holiday signs, it's all about making the home merry and warm during the holidays. "We try and bring those items to you that are unique and different," says McNamara. "Where your house feels like a home you want to be, and where you want to celebrate with your family and friends." Of course, this year will be a bit different as in a COVID-19 version of Christmas. Last weekend the store had a line that went out the door. This weekend, as San Diego has entered the state's purple reopening tier, McNamara does not know what to expect."How many people are going to come? We don't know anything. We are limiting our capacity, we are requiring masks at all times covering the mouth and the nose, and we require the use of hand sanitizer at the door," she said.Christmas is all about family and friends. This year, the pandemic will make it more restrictive — but that may mean starting to spread joy even earlier this year."Over decorate your house, and put your tree up now. Who cares, as long as it brings you joy and happiness. Do it, there are no rules this year. It's all about enjoying the season and making those special moments with the little bit of family you can. Just make it a merry Christmas," said McNamara.Christmas at the Barn runs Nov. 12 - 15, and customers are encouraged to bring canned food, which will be delivered to the Poway Community Food Bank. 2158
President Donald Trump on Thursday blamed the news media for the angry political climate as a serial bomber continues to send suspicious packages to Democrat politicians and news organizations."A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News. It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!" Trump tweeted.Trump's comments come a day after CNN's New York offices were evacuated after a suspicious package addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan was discovered in the building's mailroom.Trump made similar comments at a political rally in Wisconsin on Wednesday, saying the "the media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and to stop the endless hostility."Trump took a more muted tone on Wednesday afternoon prior to his rally, hours after packages containing explosive devices had been intercepted before they were delivered to his political rivals Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama."In these times, we have to unify, we have to come together, send a message that acts or threats of political violence of any kind have no place in the United States of America," Trump said.Just last week, at a political rally in Montana, Trump recalled fondly that Rep. Greg Gianforte (R-Montana) once assaulted a reporter, saying that "any guy that can do a body slam, he's my kind of guy." 1508
