(KGTV) - A strip mall that had fallen into disrepair and attracted squatters has been placed into receivership, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.Located on the 7400 Block of Broadway, the property consisted of several buildings that had closed about a year ago after the city busted an illegal marijuana dispensary.But that’s when the real problems began.“Lots of police calls, criminal activities and police responses,” said Richardson Griswold, who was appointed as the receiver by a superior court judge on Friday.It came after the City of Lemon Grove had been granted a judgment against the owners of the property. The judgment required that the owners clean it up and properly secure it, but that was never completed.When the receiver arrived Friday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Department was called in to remove six people who had been living inside. One of them was found hiding in the attic. Four were taken into custody on existing warrants.Inside, Griswold said there was “heaps of trash, clothing, and no plumbing, so there was the smell of human feces and human urine.”He had already hired a crew to start clearing out the buildings and board up the access points. (KGTV) -- Authorities say a firefighter has been killed battling the largest record blaze in California history.State fire officials say the firefighter died Monday at the site of the Mendocino Complex fire north of San Francisco. More details have not yet been released.Six firefighters have now died in connection with a wave of massive wildfires that struck Northern California in the past weeks.The deadliest wildfire, the Carr Fire, has left a total of eight people dead, including three firefighters.Two firefighters have died fighting a fire near Yosemite National Park.The Mendocino Complex — actually twin fires being fought together — has burned for more than two weeks. The fire has burned nearly 150 homes and about 547 square miles of brush and forest. That's an area larger than the city of Los Angeles. 842

(KGTV) -- At least three people were hospitalized Wednesday morning after a multi-vehicle collision on a La Mesa-area freeway caused by a wrong-way driver.At around 4:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol received reports of a gray Honda According traveling the wrong way on northbound state Route 125 near Grossmont Boulevard.The CHP said the Accord collided with a Toyota SUV, disabling both vehicles. According to the CHP, the wrong-way driver ditched his damaged vehicle in the middle lanes and then left the scene on foot.Moments later, several other vehicles crashed into the Accord-Toyota wreckage.ABC 10News learned at least three people in the second crash were taken to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity.The incident forced the closure of all northbound SR-125 lanes at Lemon Avenue at around 4:50 a.m. Lanes were expected to reopen by 6 a.m.A description of the wrong-way driver was not immediately available. 958
