SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents in San Ysidro and Tijuana are fearful of what will come next after hundreds of migrants rushed the border Sunday in a show of force.Commuters said they fear that they won’t be able to get across a bridge in San Ysidro to work or cross over to see family.In Mexico, residents say they’re fed up with the flood of migrants. “Deport them back to where they are, let them over here. They need to get out of Tijuana because it's just crazy for us,” said Candace Sanchez, a Tijuana resident.On the US side, those with family south of the border are concerned with what the future holds. “It worries me that the border might get closed. I mean it's like uh what's going on? We've never really seen this before,” said Victor Juarez.Employees who depend on their jobs in the US are also frightened. “Kinda scary because you know, I mean, every day we just know that we have to do what we have to do every day just to survive,” said Dana Aviles.Many people missed a day of work due to Sunday’s border closure, taking a toll with the holiday gift-giving season approaching. “I just hope they get out of here in Tijuana and let our lives be normal again, you know,” added Sanchez. 1206

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Fire-Rescue is bringing on more firefighters and preparing for a Red Flag Warning and Heat Advisory in the week ahead.Starting Monday Deputy Fire Chief David Gerboth said, "our helicopters will be on 24 hours a day. We're staffing up five additional brush engines. These are engines that are specially designed to work in these rural areas."He explained the engines have off-road capabilities and can fight fire in areas similar to Japatul Valley where the Valley Fire burned more than 9,000 acres in a day.The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for San Diego County mountains and valleys Monday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.A Heat Advisory follows, 10 a.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Thursday, "91 to 102 degrees for the San Diego valleys."This combination dire according to Gerboth."Near-record high temperatures, a mild Santa Ana event and combine that with our vegetation that burns is reaching critically dry levels. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego police are asking for the public’s help in finding a missing 17-year-old boy with several health problems.According to police, Jeremy Jose Sanchez was last seen by his mother at their apartment on Aug. 23 at around 9 p.m. Police did not disclose what part of the city the boy was last seen.The teen suffers from vision damage, loss of hearing, and has active tuberculosis. Police said he takes medications for his conditions, but he left his home without them.Police said Jeremy was reported as a runaway juvenile at risk due to health conditions.The teen is Latino with a tanned complexion, 6 feet 1 inches tall, weighs around 146 pounds, and has brown eyes and black hair.Jeremy was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt, blue jeans, and white, red and black Jordan shoes.Anyone with information on the teen is urged to contact San Diego police at 619-531-2000 or 911. 902

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego immigration advocates say they are feeling a sense of hope after the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. "I was definitely hopeful that, once again, we’ll have a process of consulting with an administration that wants to do something in regards to immigration versus what I would describe as an iron fist against anyone who’s coming into the country," says Pedro Rios, the director of the American Friends Service Committee.President-elect Biden has already shared some of his immigration related plans once he takes office. Biden has vowed to reinstate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) for children brought to the U.S. by their parents. The former vice president has also said he plans to halt funding for the border wall and reverse the Migrant Protection Protocols, allowing asylum seekers to wait in the United States, instead of Mexico, until their asylum case is heard. During the last presidential debate, Biden also promised a pathway to citizenship during his first 100 days in office. Rios says the passing of that plan would depend on who controls the senate come January.
