SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Steeped in tradition, Native American powwows celebrate life, renewing old friendships and creating new ones. With more Indian reservations than any other county in the United States, San Diego powwows help keep those traditions alive."We all try to come together and share the culture, do the best we can to teach our children. I was born and raised on the reservation, but my kids were not, so it's hard to instill the same teachings that I was brought up with," said Emerald Arnold, born and raised on the Navajo reservation.Children and adults dressed in colorful regalia for the powwow, which was held Saturday at the Harold J. Ballard Parent Center in Old Town. "When there's music provided, our ancestors hear them, and they smile upon us.Cadotte says powwows bring him closer to his ancestors and his heritage. "We can be recognized. We can have our rights restored, our heritage recognized."Native American veterans were honored at the powwow, including 102-year-old Joe Renteria, a World War II Navy veteran."It brings different people here, and it's just like a family reunion, that's what it amounts to."While each tribe has its own teachings, culture, and traditions, they come together as one at the powwow. "That's kind of what the goal is, is to try to teach our children, so our traditions and our culture doesn't die."On two Wednesdays a month, the Ballard Center holds dance classes open to all students and free of charge.They host cultural activities every Tuesday night. 1741

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld San Diego revealed Tuesday that its newest roller coaster will open this spring. "Emperor", named after the biggest species of penguin, which can be seen at the park's popular "Penguin Encounter" attraction."It will be the tallest, fastest, longest, and the only floorless dive coaster in the state of California and the entire west coast of North America," said Senior Vice President of Attractions Mike Denninger.RELATED: SeaWorld's new dive coaster will be named 'Emperor'The ride reaches 153 feet at its tallest point, tops 60 miles per hour, and includes multiple inversions. The centerpiece of the ride, however, is the 90-degree, straight down drop. Denninger says the train will freeze for a few seconds just after going over the edge, ratcheting up the anticipation, while also offering unparalleled views of SeaWorld and Mission Bay. "I think it will be wonderful. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some local drivers hoping to earn some extra cash are turning to peer-to-peer shipping.Kuazine King owns his own production company specializing in hip hop.  Business is good, but he still needs to supplement his income.  The problem?"I'm always on the road.  I have artists ... I need something that gives me ultimate flexibility but also good pay," said King.Ten months ago, King signed up to drive for Roadie, a peer-to-peer shipping app that launched in San Diego about a year ago.  The Atlanta-based company matches people and businesses with stuff to send, with drivers headed their direction.On a recent morning, 10News stopped by King's home in Del Cerro and watched as he scrolled through a list of delivery jobs.  After a few seconds, he chose one.  Delta Airlines needed someone to pick up a bag from Lindbergh Field."I'm going to take it to Carlsbad for ," said King.10news rode along as he headed to the airport picked up his package from the Delta office.  It was a surfboard, one of two airport pickups he got that morning, both bound for North County.King says on a given day, he can complete about six deliveries and earn about 0.  He likes the pay and the power over his schedule."Uber is flexible, but this is the ultimate flexibility," said King."The whole idea is to tap into unused space already on the road to make delivery more efficient, more cost effective, more sustainable and faster than any other delivery method," said Jamie Gottlieb, Content Manager at Roadie.King says all that adds up to another perk: happy work days.        "I don't think I've ever delivered to a person who hasn't been happy to get their bags.  They're always happy!" said King. 1795

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Santa Ana winds and low humidity will bring fire danger to San Diego County this week.Relative humidity is down to 10% to 15% in the county, according to the National Weather Service San Diego, causing localized fire weather conditions through Tuesday ahead of moderate to strong Santa Ana winds peaking on Thursday.The high wind weather is expected to last Wednesday night into Friday, the NWS said. Winds will gradually weaken next weekend, but dry air will remain in the county."It is already starting out dry preceding this next event which is not good," the NWS wrote. "Relative humidity will plummet further and by Thursday, single-digit and teen relative humidity could drive all the way to the coast."The county can expect to see temperatures steadily rise 5 to 10 degrees above normal west of the mountains and about 3 to 6 degrees above normal elsewhere into Tuesday, NWS says.Despite this, cooler temperatures will work their way into the county overnight."Nights will remain cool, especially for the wind-sheltered areas. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police released a photo Friday of a suspect wanted in the death of a woman in Point Loma.Joe Bennette Conway, 41, shot the unidentified woman in the parking lot of 4013 W. Point Loma Blvd. late on the night of October 9, police said.911 dispatchers received a call about the shooting. Police units found a woman with a gunshot wound to her upper body. Paramedics transported the woman to the hospital, where she died.Police identified Conway as the murder suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest. Conway is 5’7” tall and 150 pounds.
