An 11-year-old boy in Colorado is being called a hero after performing the Heimlich maneuver and possibly saving his younger brother from choking on his dinner.“So I got behind him went like this, pushed and pulled up about four times so the chicken could pop out and it did,” Elias Yatrakis told Denver7.Elias and his younger brother, Alex, were eating dinner on Monday night in their Greenwood Village home after a baseball game when the incident happened. The older boy says he knew what to do and jumped into action.“I was relieved. I was glad he was OK,” he said.“From my perspective, he saved his life,” mom Danielle Yatrakis said. “I’m just really glad he had the confidence and the knowledge to know what to do.”The 11-year-old had that knowledge because he had just recently learned what to do in a situation like this.“I am a Cub Scout so we had to take this CPR class in our basement and it taught CPR, the Heimlich,” he said. “I wasn’t really thinking. I knew what to do since I did that class.”Elias had earned his first aid badge as a part of the Cub Scouts just a few months earlier.“When he got the badge I’m like, 'that’s great to know,' but I mean I learned CPR before and I never used it. And so you’re kind of like they’re nice things to know and I now feel differently. Apple announced on Friday that it is planning to temporarily close several of its locations in four states as the number of coronavirus cases in some US states are surging.Apple said that two stores in Florida, two in North Carolina, one in South Carolina and six in Arizona will be closed until further notice. An 11th child has died and 23 additional children have become sick in connection with an adenovirus outbreak at a New Jersey health care facility, the state's Department of Health announced Friday.The children have weakened immune systems and other serious medical issues, and many of them require assistance to breathe and function. They became sick at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell, New Jersey.An ongoing investigation has revealed that not being able to separate the sick from those without symptoms -- in part due to "limitations in the facilities" -- is among the "major reasons for the outbreak being as severe as it has been," Dr. Shereef Elnahal, commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health, said Friday.But after deaths and hospitalizations, the facility now has enough space to separate them."Up until this week, it has not been possible to completely separate those patients," Elnahal said. "But now, due to decreasing census at the facility, it is."On Thursday, health officials requested help separating those who are sick, putting out a statewide call for volunteers from New Jersey Medical Reserve Corps. As children return to school, security experts want parents to add one more thing to their yearly checklist – safeguarding their child's identity.Monday is Child Identity Theft Awareness Day.“This is a huge problem that frankly no one is aware of if they're not paying attention to it, because it feels like an adult crime and it couldn't possibly happen to a child, but it does,” said Eva Velasquez, President and CEO of Identity Theft Resource Center.Recent studies show over 1 million children are impacted each year, with losses over .6 billion.This year, new government programs for COVID-19 relief have created new vulnerabilities.Children are prime targets because thieves can use their credentials to build credit history over time, then take out loans, open credit cards and max them out.It can take months or even years for parents to realize their kids now have bad credit.“The detection methods adults use just by engaging in the outside world, those aren't there for children and the thieves realize that and they know it can go undetected for long periods of time,” said Velasquez.The center says it's never too early to start monitoring your child's identity.Teach them cyber safety as they get older and watch for red flags.If you get something in the mail for your kid that looks like it should be for adult, don't write it off as a mistake.The biggest recommendation is to freeze your child's credit.
