BEIJING, April 2 (Xinhua) -- The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), proposed by China in 2013, aims to build a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe, Africa and beyond.
Infrastructure development has also made notable headway. In Greece, co-managed by China's COSCO SHIPPING, the Piraeus port has seen its container handling capacity increase fivefold since 2010 to 4.9 million TEUs last year. It now ranks 36th among the top 100 ports worldwide on the Lloyd's List, a major industry parameter, up from the 93rd when COSCO SHIPPING first joined. Other connectivity projects in areas including railways, roads, air transport, energy, and telecommunications have also made visible progress.

While hailing achievements in rural road construction, the political advisors also pointed out problems such as insufficient planning, legal protection and maintenance in this field.
"Let's work together to create an ecological civilization," said John B. Cobb Jr., a 94-year-old member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in his welcome remark at the opening ceremony.
He called for candid consultations, sincere communications, in-depth exchanges and mutual learning among countries for thoughts, wisdom and consensus to improve the global governance.
