SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The MCAS Miramar Air Show soars into town in September, bringing a spectacle of military and aerial might to San Diego.This year the show will honor the contributions and sacrifices of our nation's first responders, giving locals a moment to "reflect alongside our local police, fire, and emergency medical heroes and honor them for what they do every single day."The show will celebrate of armed forces with daily performances and demonstrations, exhibits, and static displays for guests to enjoy for free.WHENAir Show 2019 takes place Sept. 27 - 29 at MCAS Miramar. Chalet ticket holders must access parking through the South gate.This year, MCAS Miramar has set up a rideshare and taxi drop-off and pick-up location at the southeast corner of Elrod Ave. and Mitscher Way.WHAT YOU CAN/CANNOT BRINGThe airshow prohibits:Federally banned substances such as illicit narcotics — including marijuana and marijuana products or accessories;Weapons of any kind (regardless of permit), including but not limited to firearms, knives (including pocket knives and multi-tools), replica or toy weapons, pepper spray, mace, stun guns, and martial arts weapons;Outside alcoholic beverages;Pets, other than service animals;Glass containers;Bicycles, roller skates, roller blades, (kick and electric) scooters, skateboards, or hover boards;Personal drones (quad or hex copters) and they are not allowed to operate on federal property or airspace; orLasers or laser pointersTents or awnings, or tailgating will also be banned from the event. If guests are bringing anything, they must adhere to the following rules:Keys, makeup, feminine products, comb, phone, wallet, credit cards, etc. in pockets if not placed in clear bag;Binoculars and/or cameras;One large clear bag per person;Either a one-gallon Ziploc style bag, or commercially purchased clear bag – plus a small clutch for personal items. The larger clear bag must be made of clear PVC vinyl and easily searchable;Clear seat cushions and seat pads without pockets, zippers, compartments, or covers; orAn exception will be made for medically necessary coolers or ice chests after proper inspection.WHAT TO SEEFans routinely head over to the Air Show to check out the U.S. Navy Blue Angels demonstration squandron. The stars of the show have been flying since the 1940s and their maneuvers in F/A-18 Hornets are always a thrill. And don't forget about the squadron's traveling companion, a C-130 named "Fat Albert."The U.S. Army Golden Knights take to the skies but not inside aircraft. This parachute team fly to Earth at 120 mph, passing a baton and flying the American flag from 12,000 feet. And of course, they land right on target. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Thanksgiving with the Salvation Army will be different in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic."We knew that we were going to do something," says Captain Sean Kelsley, who oversees the Salvation Army East County Operations. "The question was, what would it look like?"For the past 30 years, the Salvation Army held large, family-style gatherings to feed people experiencing homelessness, the disabled, and families in need at Golden Hall for Thanksgiving. They plan for 1,800 people, plus volunteers.But a gathering of 2,000+ people is strictly forbidden under California and San Diego County COVID-19 guidelines.In its place, the Salvation Army will offer "grab-and-go" style meals at four locations around the county."We're just glad to be able to be here," says Captain Kelsey. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Central San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce announced a new relief fund for Black owned business meant to keep them afloat during the pandemic.They held a press conference Sunday afternoon at Waterfront Park announcing the Black Business Relief Grant Fund.Lance Growth, member of the chamber and CEO of Growth 1031, organized the press conference and says this is going to fill the gap where the government's Paycheck Protection Program fell short, "for the COVID crisis yes this is a light at the end of the tunnel."Growth says about 95% of black owned businesses did not get federal money."I don’t want to say insulting but disheartening where you watch this crisis unfold then you see your government say, 'Hey we know how bad this is we are going to provide you help,' but then you read about the businesses that [didn't get] PPP, and it just folds into the social unrest," he said.He said the grants and microloans will pay for anything from rent to supplies to payroll.Growth said they weren't going to make the application nearly as time consuming and invasive as the PPP, "we’re just going to try and get you this money as fast as possible because everyone is hurting from this pandemic."Applications open Wednesday, June 17, and priority will be given to small disadvantaged businesses in low income neighborhoods.Specific criteria for the grants will be defined Wednesday, according to the chamber.They are expecting a very high demand, compared to the amount they can give out. Even shorter breaks can erase some lessons.A special program at San Diego Unified is helping keep kids stay sharp and excited about learning all year round, even during breaks. It's about making learning a fun, family affair.In a classroom at Rosa Parks Elementary School in City Heights, 7-year-old students Melody and Isabella are getting some one-on-one attention with their lessons. The teachers in this case are Melody's grandmother and Isabella's mom."Everyday they have to read. Everyday they have homework to do," said Anna Gonzalez. She and Maria Theresa Jaume are among a growing number of parents and guardians getting more involved with their kid's education through the "Family Engagement Department" at San Diego Unified."So, I now know how to ask her questions," says Gonzalez, "How to engage her with the reading and things like that.""It solidifies the bond right," says Family Engagement Program manager Pamela King, "It shows kids that education is important." King says the program was established in 2016, inviting families to become partners in their kid's education with tips on how to do it."You're reading a fiction book. A leadership and facilitation company, literally named "momentum," was training corporations around the world when the pandemic hit. And it was clear to financially survive they had to pivot.Jason and Deirdre Maloney created the MagicWrap because they felt the world could use some warmth right now.“There's certainly people who are feeling isolated, feeling alone. Everybody likes a hug," Deirdre Maloney says.And a hug is just what a friend needed. But, when they couldn't find the gift they were looking for, they created it and brought MagicWrap to the market.“There's a concept about a blanket that's about covering yourself, and that's not what we wanted. We wanted that warmth like someone had their arms around you," Jason Maloney said. It even comes with a personalized note, and a pocket to keep it in. The pocket also makes a cell phone easy to walk around with. But before MagicWrap and product manufacturing, the Maloney's were a success in the field of corporate training and facilitation.
