It indicated the expanding and deepening exchanges across the Taiwan Strait, said KMT Deputy Secretary-General Chang Jung-Kong.     Taiwan had received and would witness a series of mainland delegations headed by senior officials at the provincial-level.     A delegation headed by Li Chongxi, deputy chief of the CPC's Sichuan provincial committee arrived in Taipei on Nov. 1 to discuss cooperation in trade and tourism.     Beijing Vice Mayor Ji Lin, who led a group of more than 250 members, arrived the island the next day and took part in a symposium on science and technology.     Xu Bodong, an expert on Taiwan affairs and also professor of the Beijing Union University, said the visit by the Jiangsu delegation was a continuity of trips made by Sichuan and Beijing.     "The trips reflect higher level development of cross-Strait ties as the exchanges at the local level involved more specific issues," he said. SEOUL, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping put forward a four-point plan to cement China-South Korea ties when he met South Korean Prime Minister Chung Un Chan here on Thursday.     Xi said China and the South Korea were neighbors and the relationship had been promoted since they established diplomatic ties in 1992. The exchanges of the visits by the two heads of states last year upgraded the relations to strategic and cooperative partnership, which benefited both countries and helped promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.     Xi's proposal to foster the Sino-ROK relationship was:     -- To enhance high-level contact and political trust:     The two countries should also increase exchanges between the governments, parliaments and parties. China appreciated the adherence by South Korea to the one-China policy and its support on the Taiwan and Tibet issues, Xi said.     -- To expand trade and economic cooperation:     The two countries should explore new ways on high-tech, energy-saving, and environmental protection cooperation. Xi called on the two sides to complete joint research and initiate free trade agreement negotiation.     -- To increase personnel exchanges:     The two sides should further improve exchanges on education, culture and tourism and properly handle the issues concerning the sentiments of the two peoples.     -- And, to strengthen coordination in multilateral frameworks, including the meeting mechanism of China, South Korea and Japan:     On the situation on the Korean Peninsula, Xi said all relevant sides should take the chance to show flexibility to resume the six-party talks at an early date.     Xi also said China would push for the Copenhagen climate change conference to achieve a result in line with the "Bali Roadmap."     Chung Un Chan pledged to complete the joint research on free trade agreement as soon as possible, and advance coordination with China under the G20 and the framework of China, Japan and South Korea.     Xi arrived here Wednesday night after a visit in Japan. BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua)-- The United States welcomes the peaceful development of cross-Straits ties and "more positive and stable" cross-Straits relations, said a China-US Joint Statement issued here Tuesday.     The statement said that both sides underscored the importance of the Taiwan issue in China-US relations.     The Chinese side emphasized that the Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and expressed the hope that the US side will honor its relevant commitments and appreciate and support the Chinese side's position on this issue.     The US side stated that the United States follows its one-China policy and abides by the principles of the three Sino-US joint communiques, said the statement.     The two sides reiterated that "the fundamental principle of respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity is at the core of the three Sino-US joint communiques which guide China-US relations. Neither side supports any attempts by any force to undermine this principle," said the statement.     The two sides agreed that respecting each other's core interests is extremely important to ensure steady progress in China-US relations.     Both countries believe that to nurture and deepen bilateral strategic trust is essential to China-US relations in the new era.     The US side reiterated that it welcomes a strong, prosperous and successful China that plays a greater role in world affairs.     The two sides are of the view that in the 21st century, global challenges are growing, countries are more interdependent, and theneed for peace, development and cooperation is increasing. China and the U.S. have an increasingly broad base of cooperation and share increasingly important common responsibilities on many major issues concerning global stability and prosperity.     The two sides should further strengthen coordination and cooperation, work together to tackle challenges and promote world peace, security and prosperity, said the statement.     The two sides reiterated that they are committed to building a positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-US relationship for the 21st century, and will take concrete actions to steadily build a partnership to address common challenges.     During their discussions, the Chinese side said that it resolutely follows the path of peaceful development and a win-win strategy of opening-up, and is committed to promoting the building of a harmonious world of enduring peace and common prosperity.     The U.S. is committed to working with other countries in addressing the most difficult international problems they face, said the statement.     China welcomes the United States as an Asia-Pacific nation that contributes to the peace, stability and prosperity in the region.     The statement was signed during U.S. President Barack Obama' s visit to China between November 15 and 18.
