They found a 65-year-old woman, also suffering from gunshot wounds. Both of the women who were shot died from their injuries. Payton Summons "passed naturally" after her heart stopped beating on its own Friday around 8:30 p.m., while she was still on the ventilator that had become the crux of a legal battle between her parents and a Texas hospital, her family's attorney said."The family is saddened by her loss but are glad she passed naturally," Justin Moore told CNN on Saturday. The 9-year-old girl, who had been declared brain-dead, was at the center of an ongoing court dispute between a Fort Worth hospital, which wanted to remove her from the ventilator, and her parents, who wanted to keep her on the machine.A judge this week ruled in favor of her parents' request to have a temporary restraining order against the hospital extended.Payton was not removed from the ventilator, Moore said. 781

Police detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a skydiver in Zephyrhills, Florida.Management at Skydive City told Tampa-based WFTS, the skydiver was experienced and had a properly working parachute and reserve parachute. "(The skydiver) hit the ground at full speed and were killed on impact, instantly," said General Manager TK Hayes. Hayes said neither the main parachute or reserve were pulled. It was the second to last jump of the night. The skydiver broke away from a group dive, landing at the edge of the 100-acre property. "It's definitely a mystery," said Hayes. "We've had a preliminary investigation with the detectives out there and looked at the equipment, we can't see anything particularly wrong with it."Hayes said the skydiver was not using an automatic activation device, which deploys the parachute at 700 feet if still in free-fall. That piece of equipment is not required for licensed skydivers. "It's just a sad day for the community, there's nothing we can do about that now that that's happened other than hopefully we learned something from it," he said. Skydive City sees about 70,000 jumps per year. According to Hayes, it has been a couple years since they've experienced a fatal jump. At this time, police have not released the skydiver's name, pending next of kin notification.  1424

OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — One of the women killed last weekend in a double homicide at an Otay Mesa home has been identified as an educator of foster parents for more than two decades.Deb Stolz, 65, worked for Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District training foster parents for more than 20 years with the district's Foster, Adoptive & Kinship Care Education Program, according to the college district. She was one of the two women killed outside of an Otay Mesa home on Sunday. Her daughter, 37-year-old Elizabeth Stolz, was also shot and killed."Most likely, you wouldn’t have seen Deb on the Grossmont College campus because she spent her time training resource parents in the community. Deb played an integral role in the program through her training and support to countless resource parents for foster youth in San Diego County," a statement from the district read. "Barbara Wojtach, Program Manager for the program, described Deb as the 'Mother Teresa of foster care.' She was more than just a trainer for resource parents – she was a mentor, teacher and supporter for resource parents who were struggling with the challenges of foster care."The district says Stolz was a single parent of eight children, four of them through adoption."Grossmont College’s program for foster care education is responsible for training all the resource parents in San Diego County and is the largest of its kind in the state. Deb was an important part of that program and she will be deeply missed," Stolz said.Police say 31-year-old Justice Love Peace, also known as Jeremiah Alfred Horton, allegedly shot and killed Stolz and her daughter during a custody dispute at a home in the 4300 block of Ebersole Drive sometime around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. He was reportedly there to pick up his 6-month-old son.Peace then took his son from the home. The boy was later found safe with Peace's wife at her Rolando-area home. Police say Peace fled to Mexico after the shooting, where he was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound days later. 2054
