A New Jersey woman thought her diamond wedding ring was lost forever when she accidentally flushed it down the toilet nine years ago.But thanks to a public works employee with a keen eye she was reunited with it.Paula Stanton, 60, received the gold ring encrusted with several diamonds from her husband as a gift for their 20th wedding anniversary. Nine years ago while she was cleaning, the ring slipped off her finger and down the drain it went."It was heartbreaking," Stanton told CNN affiliate WPVI. "I was embarrassed to tell my husband because it was meaningful."Her husband bought her duplicate ring as a replacement, but Stanton said she always hoped that maybe one day the original would be found. Two years ago, she talked to Ted Gogol of the Somers Point Public Works Department and explained what had happened. Gogol told her he had never come across the ring but would keep her in mind.Last month, as he was working on a pipe about 400 feet away from Stanton's house, Gogol saw something glimmer and shine in the muck. He plucked the shiny metal object out of the pipe, cleaned it off, and sure enough it was the long-lost diamond ring."That ring didn't want to leave her family," Gogol told WPVI. "There are so many things that could have happened. It could have been washed away, it could have been crushed, but it was just meant to be."Stanton couldn't believe the news when she saw a note on her door from the public works department. When Gogol brought her the ring she said, "You are like a Christmas angel."Stanton now wears both rings and vows not to lose them. 1593

A San Francisco lawmaker has introduced an ordinance that would make it illegal to make a racially-biased 911 call within the city limits.According to KPIX-TV in San Francisco and The Los Angeles Times, San Francisco City Supervisor Shamann Walton introduced the "Caution Against Racially Exploitative Non-Emergencies (CAREN) Act" on Tuesday. The CAREN acronym is a play on the name "Karen" — the name social media users often label those who make racially-based 911 calls in viral videos. In a statement to NBC, Walton said that the act would "make it unlawful for an individual to contact law enforcement solely to discriminate on the basis of a person's race, ethnicity, religious affiliation, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity."The proposed legislation is similar to a bill currently making its way through the California State Assembly. That bill, AB 1550, was introduced by Assemblyman Rob Bonta (D-Oakland)."Using 911 as a tool for your prejudice towards marginalized communities is unjust and wrong!" Bonta tweeted earlier this week. 1060

A multistate outbreak of listeria has been traced to a Houston manufacturer's Vietnamese ready-to-eat pork products, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced this week. Long Phung Food Products has issued a recall of its ready-to-eat pork products, which were shipped nationwide.Four people were hospitalized after eating Long Phung anchovy-marinated pork patty rolls manufactured between May 21 and November 16 and labeled with establishment number "EST. 13561." No deaths have been reported.Listeria is the third leading cause of death from food poisoning in the United States, according to the CDC, and is especially dangerous for anyone with a weakened immune system, over age 65 or pregnant. Symptoms usually occur within four weeks of infection but can take as long as 70 days to appear. In some cases, the first signs of infection are diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. Typical symptoms that follow include headache, stiff neck, fever, muscle pain, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions.Pregnant women are especially at risk. According to the CDC, they are 10 times more likely to get a listeria infection, and the odds are even higher for Hispanic pregnant women, who are 24 times more likely to get listeria.Although pregnant women typically experience only flu-like symptoms, the danger to the developing fetus is high. Infections during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage, premature delivery or stillbirth.Newborns with listeriosis can develop blood infections, meningitis and other serious and potentially life-threatening complications. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. The illness has affected people in Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee and Michigan, but the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said it is concerned that families and businesses may have stored frozen products. The full list can be found on its website. The CDC advises consumers and retailers to throw away or return unused products to the place of purchase, even if they have been consumed without any sign of illness. Shelves and drawers where the pork patties were storied should be washed with warm, soapy water and sanitized. 2184

A suspect has been arrested and the gun and mask have been recovered after an incident at the Boulevard Mall in Las Vegas, according to police. The gun appears to be a fake gun, according to police. The identity of the suspect will be released Friday morning.  Police said they received calls about a person with a gun at the Boulevard Mall on Maryland Parkway. No injuries were reported and police say no shots were fired. The mall was evacuated while officers made sure the person with a gun is not inside the mall. Deputy Chief Chris Jones told the media during a press briefing that video has been obtained of a person wearing a mask and carrying a long gun. The incident began shortly after 7 p.m. Watch video from inside the Boulevard Mall belowAs the news first broke earlier tonight, thoughts of the Las Vegas shooting came to mind. But when it comes to mall shootings in Las Vegas there have been a few isolated incidents. In July 2014, one person was injured during a shooting at the Fashion Show Mall. In that case, police reported a scuffle broke out and one man was shot in the neck. There was another shooting in May 2016 in the parking lot at Fashion Show Mall. This occurs at a crucial moments for Boulevard Mall. The more than 50-year-old shopping center was once the premier mall in the city but fell into disrepair. It was sold in 2013 to developer Roland Sansone for .5 million and then embarked on a million renovation project. It’s had some near-term ups and downs. After the SeaQuest Aquarium announced in 2016 it would open, Macy’s and J.C. Penney both said last year they would close. In 2018, Sansone announced the Galaxy Theater would open in the fall and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield will open in the second story of the former Macy’s space.Facebook live video from Mahsa Saeidi at the scene  1894
