SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Nine people were taken into custody Friday after border officials say a panga-style boat was stopped off the coast of Carlsbad.The boat was spotted at about 10:20 p.m. on Thursday by San Diego Air and Marine Branch crews. Officials say the crews used blue lights, sirens, and a spotlight to try and stop the boat, but it would not stop.Crews then used disabling rounds on the boat's engine, bringing the vessel to a stop about 12 miles west of Carlsbad.The nine people on the boat were taken into custody onshore by Border Patrol agents. 564

"We love Mysterious Galaxy for the same reasons you do and know that it will survive, will be saved, only because of your continued support."The new location will reside at 3555 Rosecrans Street. The existing staff will also stay on board for the store's next chapter, the owners say."We know the expert team of booksellers is much of what makes Mysterious Galaxy special. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Monday arrested a suspect they say beat a 72-year-old man with a crowbar during a carjacking. Police say Daniel Dubois, 33, was arrested for the incident. According to police, the incident happened on the 5000 block of Kesling Street in Clairemont Mesa East around 9:47 a.m. Monday. Police say the 72-year-old drove up to his home only to find a man trying to break into his garage with a crowbar. Police say the victim suffered major head injuries in the attack. The incident happened less than a week after an 87-year-old man was beaten by three men who broke into his Clairemont home. The victim in that attack says he was working on a ceiling fan with the door open when the suspects stormed in. 974

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are investigating a shooting in San Diego’s Corridor area that was reported following a vehicle crash early Tuesday morning.A DoorDash driver told ABC 10News he was on his way to make a delivery when he was involved in a collision with a car on 37th Street and El Cajon Boulevard at around 4 a.m.The other car drove off, and the DoorDash driver followed it to 37th Street and Meade Avenue until the car came to a stop.According to the delivery driver, two men got out of the car and fired shots towards him. The delivery driver said he was not struck by the gunfire and was able to drive away to call 911.A short time later, at an apartment complex in the 4600 block of 35th Street, police spotted the car that matched the delivery driver’s description.A woman believed to be the car’s driver and two others were detained for questioning by officers.There is no word on if any arrests were made. 930

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday, the California National Guard confirmed that its service members were recently sent to two San Diego nursing homes that needed help treating residents who were sick with COVID-19.“We supplemented their existing staff- their civilian staff- with our medical teams here in the California National Guard,” Lt. Col. Jonathan Shiroma told ABC10 and said that they were deployed at the direction of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).The National Guard reports that 20 troops were sent to Santee's Stanford Court nursing facility for a week in October and another 20 troops were sent to El Cajon's Villa Las Palmas for two weeks in November.Lt. Col. Shiroma said teams tested patients and staff and offered other supportive care. “Within the Guard we also have many medical professionals so each of the teams were led by either a physician assistant or a registered nurse or an LPN,” he added.“If you have an outbreak, you have staff that has to quarantine and so in order to provide care you want to get people into the building to help with the residents,” Deborah Pacyna with the California Association of Health Facilities told ABC10 News.The CDPH reports that since the start of the pandemic, 50 healthcare workers have tested positive at the El Cajon facility where 91 residents have gotten the virus and 45 healthcare workers have tested positive at the Santee facility where 58 residents have contracted COVID-19.The National Guard said that it doesn't have any current missions in San Diego but it's always ready. “If something comes in the next few weeks and there’s a need in any part of the state, the California National Guard will respond appropriately,” added Lt.
