(AP) — Facebook is tightening its policy against QAnon, the baseless conspiracy theory QAnon, which paints President Donald Trump as a secret warrior against a supposed child-trafficking ring run by celebrities and government officials."Starting today, we will remove any Facebook Pages, Groups and Instagram accounts representing QAnon, even if they contain no violent content," a blog post from the company stated on Tuesday. The move comes less than two months after Facebook said it would stop promoting the group and its adherents — but faltered with spotty enforcement. Facebook said since they stepped up these measures in August, they have removed more than 1,500 pages and groups for QAnon containing discussions of potential violence and more than 6,500 pages and groups connected with militarized social movements.Facebook said Tuesday that it will remove Facebook pages, groups and Instagram accounts for “representing QAnon.”"Pages, Groups and Instagram accounts that represent an identified Militarized Social Movement are already prohibited. And we will continue to disable the profiles of admins who manage Pages and Groups removed for violating this policy, as we began doing in August," the company stated. The company said it is starting to enforce the policy as of Tuesday but cautioned that it “will take time and will continue in the coming days and weeks.”"Our Dangerous Organizations Operations team will continue to enforce this policy and proactively detect content for removal instead of relying on user reports. These are specialists who study and respond to new evolutions in violating content from this movement and their internal detection has provided better leads in identifying new evolutions in violating content than sifting through user reports," Facebook said.The company also said they expect renewed attempts to evade detection and they will change their policy and enforcement "as necessary."QAnon began a few years ago as a single conspiracy theory. On Sunday, tension escalated at the US-Mexico border as U.S. officials launched tear gas at a group of migrants rushing the border. Now, thousands of migrants are staying in temporary shelters across the border in Tijuana and Mexicali, hoping to claim asylum in America.For Edwin Hernandez, Carmen Lopez and their two children, it was an unimaginable journey to get to the border.“For us, it's hard,” Hernandez says. “We never thought we'd do this.”The family traveled 2,500 miles by foot from their home in Honduras to the border town of Tijuana.  The family formed a human chain, locking arms, and began their long trek, all in hopes of seeking asylum in the United States. Hernandez says they needed to leave due to escalating problems in their home country.“Problems involving gangs and extortion,” Hernandez explains.Hernandez says he’s already seen two of his own cousins murdered by gangs, and he worries for his two children, ages 7 and 12.“The problem is, I’m just always thinking of the kids,” Hernandez says. “I think to myself, what's the point of doing this? I'm doing this for my two children and for her.”The family wasn’t at the border when tear gas was deployed on migrants trying to cross illegally on Sunday, but they saw the images.“I would not want that to happen to my kids, or to me or to my husband. So, I would rather wait,” says Lopez.They want to make sure they enter legally by asking for asylum at an official checkpoint.Right now, the closest thing they have to an official document is a piece of paper they received from a checkpoint with their places in line. They are numbers 1,463 and 1,464.“Of course we’re scared, but what can we do?”  Hernandez says.For now, they family will wait at a shelter, where their children can go to a small school.“It really depends on them and how long they have us wait,” says Lopez. “I don't know.”  1889

(AP) — Facebook says it will restrict QAnon and stop recommending that users join groups supporting it, but the company is stopping short of banning the right-wing conspiracy movement outright. Facebook said Wednesday it is banning groups and accounts associated with QAnon, U.S.-based militia groups and anarchist groups that support violence. But the company will continue allow people to post material that supports these groups - so long as they do not otherwise violate its content policies against things like hate speech and abuse. The QAnon conspiracy theory is centered on the baseless belief that President Donald Trump is waging a secret campaign against enemies in the “deep state” and a child sex trafficking ring run by satanic pedophiles and cannibals. For more than two years, followers have pored over tangled clues purportedly posted online by a high-ranking government official known only as “Q.”The conspiracy theory emerged in a dark corner of the internet but has recently crept into mainstream politics.
