SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The Coast Guard Tuesday rescued a 62-year-old man from a fishing boat 72 miles off the coast of San Diego.The crew of the 95-foot boat, called the ‘Oceanside 95,” called the Coast Guard around 11:30 a.m. requesting assistance for a passenger experiencing symptoms of a stroke.Crews arrived on scene around 2:45 p.m. and were able to hoist the man into the Jayhawk helicopter when he was taken to the hospital.The man is said to be in stable condition. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The names Linda and Charles Van Kessler might have sounded new, but their efforts were anything but."I started the charity in 1978 and I had to work very hard through jobs when I came here to California," Charles Van Kessler said.Charles was an orphan at a young age in Europe when he arrived to the states and met his wife, Linda."I just felt I needed to do something and it's been phenomenal since," Charles described. "We want to help children that don't have it as easy and are bearing burdens that are too much for their age."That's when the couple created Passion4Kids, a non-profit that helped handicapped, abused and neglected children."We bring toys we bring games we pray with them, we play with them. We do just a lot of stuff to make these kids happier."They felt the effects of COVID-19 like many other organizations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The city is running behind on a project to restore an iconic bridge that borders Hillcrest and North Park.Now, people in the area are growing frustrated at the construction on the Georgia St. bridge that's causing traffic delays and drivers to use surrounding neighborhoods as shortcuts."Traffic is very very bad because of te bridge, and I have to go around to buy stuff for my shop, and it's taking me longer to get where I want to go," said Milan Misic, who lives in the area and owns the Balboa Perk coffee and antique shop. The city is restoring the 103-year-old bridge so it can withstand an earthquake. The city broke ground on the million project in July 2016, saying it would take a year. But now it won't be finished until next spring.A city spokesman says the delays are because of weather, and unanticipated cobbles and deposits crews discovered in the bridge walls, making drilling more difficult.He added that there is no threat to public safety and it will not raise the cost.You can track the project on the city's website.   1092

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family of Kiera Bergman says a recent development in her murder case has left them frustrated and fearful.The 19-year-old woman was missing for weeks before her body was discovered in the desert outside of Phoenix last year. Bergman's boyfriend, Jon Clark, was charged in the murder; but this month, a judge lowered his bond from million to 0,000. They also say that in original court paperwork, police detectives made comments that didn't add up. If Clark does bail out, he'll have to wear an ankle monitor. She's frustrated Clark could potential go home and be somewhat comfortable, while her daughter will never get that chance again.
