(KGTV) -- A small plane was forced to land on a freeway in San Clemente Monday, but no injuries were reported and no vehicles were hit.According to the California Highway Patrol, the emergency landing was reported shortly before 12:50 p.m. on southbound Interstate 5 near Basilone Road, north of Camp Pendleton.CHP officials said the pilot was flying from John Wayne Airport in Orange County to San Diego’s Montgomery Field when his plane began having mechanical issues while over Camp Pendleton.The pilot, who has 18 years of flying experience, was aware he needed to land immediately and considered Highway 101 [Old Pacific Highway parallel to I-5] as an emergency landing spot before choosing I-5, according to the CHP.The pilot was able to wait for a break in vehicles before guiding the aircraft safely onto the freeway. The plane landed and came to a stop on the No. 4 lane before it was eventually moved to the right shoulder.The aircraft remained on the shoulder and off the freeway lanes as of 2:20 p.m.The pilot, who was the aircraft's only occupant, was unhurt, an FAA official told ABC 10News. The official said the plane was a single-engine Piper PA24.The CHP said the pilot credited his experience and luck for safely landing the plane. 1258

(KGTV) - Chili’s is warning customers Friday about a possible payment card data breach at restaurants.The chain says malware was used to gather payment card information including credit or debit card numbers and cardholder names. Expiration dates and CVV codes on the back of cards may also have been accessed at certain Chili’s restaurants.The data were accessed between March and April of 2018, but Chili’s says a breach may have occurred on other dates.Chili’s said affected customers would have access to MyIDCare, a fraud resolution and credit monitoring service. It provides credit monitoring, a ,000,000 insurance reimbursement policy, exclusive educational materials, and fully managed identity theft recovery services.The chain is working with third-party forensic experts to determine the scope of the problem.Customers can call 888-710-8606 for more information. 883

(KGTV) – In an effort to conserve energy amid a lingering heat wave, DMV offices across California will close at 3 p.m. from Monday through Wednesday this week.The decision to close early was made to save energy and “protect the health and safety of customers and employees from high heat impacts,” officials with the agency said.The early closures run from Aug. 17-19.DMV offices will accommodate customers -- with and without appointments -- until 2:30 p.m. on the specified days.Customers who have appointments on the specified days between 2:30 p.m.-5 p.m. will be contacted and have their appointments rescheduled.DMV officials said customers can visit the agency’s website for many services.Officials added: “The DMV is also using shade structures where available, offering mobile tickets so customers can wait in an air-conditioned car or other building and return when it is their turn, and making water available to customers and employees.During the closures and where possible, DMV employees will telework. Those currently working from home during this period of excessive heat will continue to do so and are encouraged to reduce energy consumption, especially during peak hours.The DMV is also reducing energy consumption throughout the day by turning off all unnecessary lights and equipment and closing blinds and other window coverings.
