SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorist was killed when his car was struck by a trolley after he drove past a trolley crossing gate in the Valencia Park area, police said Tuesday.The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Merlin Drive and Imperial Avenue, east of Valencia Parkway, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A 22-year-old man was driving a Toyota Prius southbound on 60th Street toward Imperial Avenue when he drove past trolley crossing arms and was struck by an eastbound trolley, Buttle said. The impact pushed the vehicle about 100 feet down the tracks.The victim, the only occupant of the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene, the officer said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - More than 1.3 million ballots had been received by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters by mid-afternoon today, with around 51,000 votes cast at polling locations so far.The San Diego County Registrar's Office reported 1.36 million ballots collected by mid-afternoon out of the 1.95 million registered voters in the county.With county polling locations open early, about 126,000 residents were able to cast their votes in person over the past four days, the Registar's Office said.Mail-in ballots were sent to all registered voters in the county on Oct. 5, even those who had not requested one. Voters who prefer to cast their ballots at their assigned polling place on Election Day can do so until 8 p.m.An in-person voting location tool can be found on the county's voting website, SDvote.com.County voters also have until 8 p.m. to drop off mail ballots at 125 drop-off locations throughout the county, which can found on the Registrar's website.Registrar of Voters Michael Vu said his office is working with county public health services to ensure the health and safety of election workers and voters. Personal protective equipment and sanitation supplies will be provided to staffers so they can conduct the election process safely.Voters casting ballots in person were instructed to bring a face mask and plan to maintain social distance.Locations of vote centers were chosen and configured to allow for queuing and voting while maintaining six feet of social distance. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Following a two-week warning period, the City of San Diego will resume parking regulation enforcement across the city Thursday after months of limited enforcement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.According to the city, restarting parking enforcement will allow for increased turnover at parking meters and businesses, ensuring accessibility for patrons visiting local stores and restaurants.The city temporarily suspended parking enforcement on March 16 following the COVID-19 stay-at-home order, limiting enforcement to holiday or Sunday regulations only. Multiple attempts in the following months to reinforce parking regulations have been thwarted by ongoing shutdown orders.Citations continued to be issued for vehicles parked illegally at red, white, and blue painted curbs.On Oct. 1, limited enforcement with written warnings began. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was suspected of stealing a car from a Rolando Park used auto dealership early this morning, then crashing the car when he tried to flee from police.An unknown number of accomplices stole three other cars from the same dealership, and all the accomplices remained unaccounted for Sunday afternoon, San Diego Police Officer Sarah Foster said.Two of the cars were eventually recovered, while one was still outstanding.Police were alerted to a break-in around 2 a.m. at Cash For Cars on University Avenue, Foster said. Officers spotted one of the four stolen cars leaving the parking lot and tried to pull it over.The driver fled, and police pursued him until he crashed into an embankment on College Avenue near Streamview Drive, Foster said.The suspect was arrested with the help of a police dog after he tried to hide from officers in a home near the spot where he crashed, Foster said.The man was treated for a bite wound before being booked into jail.Detectives were continuing to search for the remaining suspects. 1049
