DETROIT — A 12-year-old girl takes a challenge and a dare that could have cost her life.It’s called the "fire challenge." Young people pour flammable liquids on their bodies and set themselves on fire.Brandi Owens says her 12-year-old daughter Timiyah Landers did the challenge with her friends last Friday.She ended up engulfed in flames. Brandi and her fiance extinguished the blaze from her baby girl and rushed her to the hospital.Timiyah is now at Children’s Hospital with second and third-degree burns over 49 percent of her body. Her mom says kids find these dangerously “outrageous” challenges on social media and Youtube. She is angry and has a message for those behind the sites that post these videos.“They need to delete this mess," Owens said fighting back tears. "It should be censored. That’s nothing that a kid should come across. I could have lost my baby, by the grace of God she’s alive. If I wasn’t home, I would have walked in to my baby dead."Owens says Timiyah knew better. So, she is urging parents to monitor their kids, their friends and their internet and social media platforms.Timiyah will likely be in the hospital for several months and will undergo several more surgeries. 1272

DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - MLB Hall of Famer, Trevor Hoffman, joined joint developers, Zephyr Partners and The Robert Green Company Monday in supporting an initiative that would give San Diegans access to a bluff-top site that has been closed to the public for a century.The plan is to transform a nearly 17-acre site at 3350 Camino Del Mar into a luxury resort with public access to the beach down below."To be able to actually come here and enjoy it, have a glass of wine at one of the restaurants or walking on one of the trails, I'm really looking forward to it," said Del Mar resident of 50 years, KC Vafiadis. The two developers want to create a luxury resort called "Marisol" which would include a hotel with 65 rooms, 31 villas, dining options, gardens, cocktail lounge, spa and access to the beach down below. The plan is a smaller version of the original proposal, which was met with backlash by residents of Solana Beach and Del Mar. They worried it would obstruct ocean views and increase traffic in the area, so the developers downsized the project by 40-percent.The new plan is an alternative to a proposal that was already approved, which would create private, gated estates.The developers now hope to gather enough signatures for a citizen's initiative to put the plan on the ballot next March. They say they're taking into consideration bluff safety and stabilization and have plans for traffic relief as well.The initiative will be filed with the Del Mar Clerk Monday. 1492

(KGTV) — A three-year-old horse died after it broke down during training and had to be euthanized at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Saturday.The horse, named Koa, broke down during training, according to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (DMTC) confirmed. The extent of the horse's injury was unclear.Koa is the ninth horse to die while racing or training at Del Mar this year. RELATED: Horse injured at Del Mar euthanized following complicationsTwo days into Del Mar's summer season, two horses — two-year-old Charge A Bunch and three-year-old Carson Valley — collided head-on during training, killing both animals. Carson Valley's jockey, Assael Espinoza, suffered an injury to his back and was hospitalized.A third horse, Bowl of Soul, was euthanized less than two weeks after due to a fetlock joint injury. Bri Bri, an unraced three-year-old filly, was euthanized in August after suffering a serious injury during training.In November, two horses — three-year-olds Ghost Street and Prayer Warrior — died after serious injuries in separate races.
