President Donald Trump will hold two rallies in the western swing state of Arizona on Monday while Sen. Kamala Harris will stump for her running mate, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden in the all-important battleground state of Florida.Polls indicate that Trump has significant ground to make up in the final two weeks in order to win re-election — a steep but not impossible task, considering he did just that in winning the 2016 election.Trump spent Sunday evening in the Las Vegas area after a rally in Nevada — a crucial swing state where recent polls show him trailing Biden by as many as 11 points or as few as 2 points. Trump will then fly to Arizona on Monday, where he will hold rallies in Prescott, a city in the northern part of the state, and in Tucson, in the southern part of the state.Meanwhile, Sen. Kamala Harris will hold voter mobilization events in two of Florida's largest cities — Orlando and Jacksonville. A state infamous for tight races, recent polls show Biden with a slight lead of just a few points. At a drive-in rally in Orlando, supporters honked their car horns as Harris approached the stage. She urged those in attendance to hit the polls as soon as possible, as early in-person voting opened in the state on Monday.Harris bashed Trump on his administration's response to the COVID-19, citing reports that he privately told journalist Bob Woodward in February that he knew the virus was deadly despite his public efforts to "downplay" the crisis. She also told rally-goers that key issues like healthcare and police reform would be on the ballot next month. Trump carried both Arizona and Florida during the 2016 election.Biden himself does not have any public events scheduled for Monday as of 11 a.m. ET.The candidates' rallies come just days before the final presidential debate of the 2020 election cycle. That debate will take place on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET in Nashville. 1927

Presidential candidate Joe Biden’s campaign released a statement on Monday saying that the former vice president is not in favor of defunding police departments. His campaign’s statement comes a day after the Minneapolis City Council voted on dismantling the city’s police department in the wake of the death of George Floyd.Biden’s campaign added that he is supportive of police reforms, many of which are backed by those leading massive protests throughout the country.“Vice President Biden does not believe that police should be defunded,” Biden campaign spokesperson Andrew Bats said. “He hears and shares the deep grief and frustration of those calling out for change, and is driven to ensure that justice is done and that we put a stop to this terrible pain.”Biden’s campaign says it is supportive of increasing funding for public schools, summer programs and mental health and substance abuse treatment, “so that officers can focus on the job of policing.”Meanwhile, President Donald Trump tweeted on Monday that “the radical left Democrats have gone crazy” in response to defunding the police.“The president is appalled by the defund the police movement,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said.Earlier on Monday, Democrats in Congress proposed legislation calls on a national ban on police use of chokeholds, mandates racial bias training for officers, and sets restrictions on transferring military-type vehicles from the federal government to local police departments.Last week at a speech in Philadelphia, Biden said that he would call on Congress to implement a ban on chokeholds and a stop of transferring military equipment to police departments.McEnany said that the president does not have a specific police reform plan in response, but said it’s something he will look into. 1810

RAMONA (KGTV)— Representative Duncan Hunter -R (CA-50) kicked off his Memorial Day weekend in Ramona, at a town hall-style meeting. He and his father, former Congressman Duncan Hunter Sr. - R were guest speakers at "The Border: Then and Now!" event, hosted by a conservative group, American Liberty Forum- Ramona. The elder Hunter remembered San Ysidro during his early years in Congress in the 1980s and 1990s. "The border was a no-man's land. And everybody knows that here, that you didn't go to the border when it was close to being dark," Hunter Sr. said. Border Patrol statistics showed in 1986, San Diego agents apprehended nearly 630,000 people attempting to cross the border illegally. But double-layer fencing dropped that number to close to 32,000 arrests in 2016. They also argued that crime numbers dipped, and the economy boomed in that time. Because of these, both Hunters said they support the President's Border Wall plan. "If you can move troops to Syria, then you can move troops to the border, and build a wall on the border, and say it is in the interest of national security," the current Congressman said. But Friday, a federal judge temporarily blocked the President's plan to transfer military funds to build more border fencing. This was something that the Congressman did not agree with. "His lawyers need to fight it. They need to do it now, and it should go up to the Supreme Court," Hunter said. Hunter also told the audience at Ramona MainStage that he is on board with the President's new merit-based immigration policy. "You get to come here, if you're worth having here," Hunter Jr. said. "I know that sounds mean, but just because you want to come here from another country, doesn't mean you get to."When asked about agricultural and construction jobs, Hunter Jr. admitted that they need to work on special provisions."We understand the needs especially in California and other agricultural states, where they need people to work here, and most Americans don't want those jobs, and they're not going to to do those jobs," Hunter said. "So how do you do that? how do you do it so that the people who are coming here can't be taken advantage of, so they have to go home and check in?" he asked. 2235

President Trump is thinking about using a travel ban-like executive order to keep a migrant caravan that's working its way through Mexico out of the US.The proposal, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, would block certain asylum-seekers at the Mexican border and represent a dramatic escalation of enforcement. This plan is just in the formative stages, though, and a government official familiar with the working version told the Chronicle it would probably face legal challenges. In the meantime, another US-bound immigrant caravan plans to leave next week from El Salvador. Among the travelers likely are pregnant women, who as immigrants?face particular stresses in America.PHOTOS: Scenes from the migrant caravan heading to U.S.Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, referring to US troops who are expected to be deployed to the southern border to deter an incoming migrant caravan, said Thursday that "we do not have any intention right now to shoot at people.""We do not have any intention right now to shoot at people, but they will be apprehended, however," Nielsen said in an interview with Fox News. "But I also take my officers and agents, their own personal safety, extraordinarily seriously. They do have the ability, of course, to defend themselves."Defense Secretary James Mattis is expected to sign deployment orders that could send 800 or more troops to the border with Mexico to help border patrol authorities stop the caravan, according to three administration officials.Nielsen said the Department of Homeland Security has asked for the Department of Defense to help "bolster our capabilities" on the border in an effort to avoid a chaotic incident like when migrants were met at the Guatemalan-Mexican border by Mexican police in riot gear."We will absolutely not tolerate violence against border patrol in this situation," Nielsen said. "These are dedicated men and women risking their lives every day. I will not tolerate Mexicans or anybody else acting in a violent way towards our men and women on the border." 2146
