A poll commissioned by CNN and conducted by SSRS showed a majority of Americans are embarrassed by how the US has responded to the coronavirus pandemic, and are angry about the way things are going in the nation. The poll conducted August 12 through 15 was released on Wednesday.The poll surveyed 1,108 Americans, 31% of whom are Democrats, 27% of whom are Republicans, and the remaining 42% being either independent or a third-party supporter.The poll has a 3.7% margin of error.Here are the highlights:68% of Americans are embarrassed by America’s coronavirus response, compared to 28% who say they’re proud51% said they’re “very angry” about the direction of the country; 27% said they’re somewhat angry57% said there should not be in-person learning in their community, compared to 37% who said their local schools should be open for in-person learning49% said that pro sports should not be played, compared to 46% who say games should be playedAs far as marks on President Donald Trump, 51% approve of his handling of the economy, compared to 44% who disapprove. While most Americans approve of his handling of the economy, 62% said he could be doing more to combat the coronavirus.The number of Americans who are personally impacted by the virus has also increased in recent months. When the poll was last conducted in June, only 40% of Americans said they personally knew someone who was infected by the virus. A man was arrested on a DUI charge last week in Port St. Lucie, Florida after police spotted him riding a lawn mower, carrying a case of beer and driving erratically on an access road.An officer spotted 56-year-old Kenneth Burton Alleshouse on Nov. 3 at about 6:15 p.m.The officer stopped Alleshouse driving the lawn mower and could smell a strong odor of alcohol emitting from him.The officer conducted a DUI investigation and police say Alleshouse's blood alcohol level was three times over the legal limit. 532

A new social media trend has one West Michigan photographer capturing the reactions of two people meeting for the very first time in a hybrid blind date/photoshoot.Hailey Estill started shooting photos professionally just a few months ago. She has been working to get her business Candid Captures by Hayley off the ground in a few different ways.Estill graduated from college with a degree in psychology and has been looking into how she can meld her passion for creative photography with her knowledge of how the human mind works.And so, in a poetic meshing of her different skill sets, she began arranging and shooting what she calls "stranger shoots".Estill says she is "interested in both the art and the psyche behind two people meeting and getting intimate pictures taken.”On Monday evening she let FOX 17 tag along on her latest shoot.“They're all gonna have different outcomes, because you're just doing it with completely different people every time,” Estill said.At this shoot, a man and a woman from Grand Rapids would meet for the very first time, as Estill hangs back and takes a series of photos that could easily be confused for an engagement shoot.Danny and Caitlin, both in their early twenties, walked towards each other with their faces covered by bandannas.Estill says she will often give the participants prompts while shooting, telling them to whisper different trivia facts about themselves to one another.“So I’m going to tell you guys to go in the middle of the road there and slow dance for a minute," Estill told Danny and Caitlin during their photoshoot at Crescent Park in downtown Grand Rapids."And then Danny, you go first and tell her 3 things about you. And after, I want you to tell him 3 things about you."While Estill says not every couple ends up hitting it off right away, Danny and Caitlin seemed quite smitten.“I think I'm a pretty outgoing person, easy to get along with. So this wasn't super out of my comfort zone. I'm pretty good right now, I don't know about him," Caitlin said after the photoshoot finished up."The entire time I was kind of just like, Wow, she's beautiful. Like, I can't wait to get to know her," Danny added. “I hope there's something here… I mean, I have good feelings about this.”The pair exchanged contact info before the sun went down.“He walked her to her car, so I don't know what’s happening," Estill said after the couple had departed.Estill says she doesn't see her playing cupid as a long-term career path, but for now, she is enjoying it and looking forward to booking more "stranger shoots" in the near future.She said, “You just never know how people are going to react. A motorcycling Santa in Tennessee took out his bike covered in Christmas decorations a few months early this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic."After 2020 rolled in, so many people became unhappy, the cheer level dropped, there is sadness, there's all kind of stuff happening that we sure don't need, but it's here," said AJ Wolf, Motorcycle Santa.Wolf, as Santa, with his decked-out motorcycle has been entertaining the Cross Plains area at Christmas-time for seven years.His wife, who he calls Mrs. Claus, encouraged him this month to take out his Harley Davidson adorned with antlers, 1,400 lights, and a sleigh. "She said 'honey, you need to go out get the reindeer bike and just go and wave to people and get the cheer up, spread some cheer honey, do it somehow,'" he said.He's taken the motorcycle to Walmart, driven it on the highway, and just a few doors down too, where a group of kids live."Here's the thing, we have so many little ones from the time they are able to walk, they want to run up and see Santa... even the parents they look at this and they get worse then kids get," he said.Motorcycle Santa added a new message to his bike this summer to bring extra cheer during the public health crisis."It says 'Santa putting cheer in gear and it all starts here' which is in a red heart," he said.WTVF's Hannah McDonald first reported this story. 1389

A shooter opened fire at a church in the Northern Caucasus region of southern Russia on Sunday, killing five people and wounding two others, authorities said, according to state media.The incident took place at a church in Kizlyar in the restive Russian republic of Dagestan.Police responded, traded fire with the shooter and killed him, the authorities said. Two officers were injured in the gunfight, they said.The shooting occurred during Maslenitsa, a festival celebrated in Russia that is full of dancing, lots of pancakes and carnival-like festivities.Russian state news agency Tass spoke to a law enforcement source who said that "the unknown person opened fire on people celebrating Maslenitsa."Kizlyar Mayor Alexander Shuvalov was quoted by Tass as saying that the attacker opened fire on "people after leaving the service."It was not immediately known who was behind the attack.Dagestan and its neighbor Chechnya have been wracked by separatist and Islamic violence in recent years. 1010
