SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Sheriff's Department requested the public's help locating a North County woman who disappeared more than seven years ago.Kimberly "Kim" Jo Evans, 48, was last seen on April 30, 2013, by her mother at their Encinitas home. Evans left that morning on foot and has not been seen or heard from since.Evans was last seen wearing a green plaid blouse, green shorts, and carrying a suitcase.She's described as 5'6", weighing about 110 pounds, has reddish-brown hair and brown eyes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This year's San Diego Pride festivities are going virtual, to comply with the Stay-at-home order brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. While hundreds of thousands of people tuned into the program online, others could not resist heading to Hillcrest for the annual celebration. No cars needed to be towed, and no streets needed to be blocked off Saturday. This year's San Diego Pride parade launched virtually in a quiet outdoor patio at Inside-Out restaurant in Hillcrest."Today's going to look a little different, but we're going to keep it as close to normal as possible," San Diego Pride Executive Director, Fernando Lopez, said.Organizers hoped to keep it "normal," despite trying times brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. But Pride is no stranger to the idea of "adapt and overcome.""Our parade has gone through a hurricane, our parade has gone through a bomb threat," San Diego Pride Philanthropy Director, Sarafina Scapicchio said. "We have had challenges to this event happening, and it is very important to keep our Pride traditions alive regardless of what's going on to the community."People who would normally be marching in Hillcrest submitted videos and logged on for live interviews. Others still made their way to University Avenue, to support local LGBTQ businesses and display their pride."Pride is feeling your true self and celebrating with your community," Lorraine Neville said while dining outdoors at Gossip Grill."It means one love," Cindy Lauritzen said, also at the restaurant.Cindy and Janine Lauritzen never miss a Pride. They say they want their love story to inspire the next generation."There was a day when we couldn't be married," Janine Lauritzen said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Police Departments K9 officers and their handlers were honored at the unveiling of the new K9 Memorial Dedication Ceremony Wednesday afternoon. They don’t carry weapons. Often times, they are the weapon.“We’ve had several dogs injured, stabbed, and shot,” Lt. Tony Lessa of the San Diego Police K9 Unit said. “Fortunately, only one was killed in the line of duty.”Since 1984, ninety-two San Diego Police K9’s have served alongside their handlers. They enter themselves into dangerous situations for the good of the community. Many said their value is immeasurable. “They improve officer safety for out officers in a way that they reduce the use of force we have to use,” Lt. Lessa said. “You can’t put a number on that.”That is why a new Memorial wall was built for the specialized unit. Sitting at the helm is a bronze statue of German Shepard Bando, who was struck by a car and killed in the line of duty in 1994. Underneath his statue are the names of several K9’s and their handlers.Patsy Samson was the main donor for the San Diego Police Foundation. She worked with the organization for eight months until finally unveiling the memorial today.“They love their K9’s,” Samson said. “They take care of their K9’s. They just want to do the best you can do for the community that they protect and serve, every single day.”Whether it’s their cuteness on their time off, or their fierce abilities to bring down criminals, the K9’s officers have a special place in hearts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The preliminary hearing got underway Wednesday for a case that saw the California Highway Patrol reverse course on blame months after a deadly wrong-way crash.Lauren Freeman appeared in court almost a year to the day of the deadly wrong crash on the transition ramp between I-5 and I-8 near Old Town about 2 a.m. Justin Callahan, 35 , who was driving a Volkswagen Jetta, died at the scene, while Freeman and her passenger in a Toyota Camry suffered serious injuries in the crash.The CHP initially thought Callahan was driving the wrong way, eastbound in the westbound lanes, but family members told 10News it didn't make sense because he should have been heading to Ocean Beach from the South Bay after work, and not away from it. After a more thorough probe, investigators determined it was Freeman who was driving the wrong way and driving under the influence. Officers arrested her in November on charges including murder and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated."We're just hoping for justice. The truth came out through the CHP and now we have the justice system to go through," said Tommy Villafranca, Callahan's brother.On the stand, one witness says he was driving on I-8 headed toward Sunset Cliffs, when he and his passenger saw a light-colored 4-door car race past him going the wrong way."I was in the car ... noticed headlights coming in my direction. You see it and by the time it registers, it drove past me ... it was crazy," said Valentino Asuncion IV.10News reached out to a contingent of Freeman's supporters, who declined to comment.
