Earlier this week, both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration investigate an outbreak of salmonella infections across multiple states, possibly linked to imported wood ear mushrooms. The agencies said consumers should be on notice when ordering food with mushrooms because the dry mushrooms, which were likely imported by Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc. of Santa Fe Springs, California, could cause salmonella infections. The agencies say the dry mushrooms were shipped to restaurants in 31 states and Washington, D.C."Consumers can ask restaurants where mushrooms are from before ordering to avoid eating recalled mushrooms," the FDA said. The CDC says 41 reported cases of the salmonella infection in 10 states, and four people have been hospitalized. On its website, Wismettac Asian Foods said they voluntarily recall the 5-pound bags of dried fungus imported from China. 920
Dr. Deborah Birx says she will help with a Biden Administration transition and then “I will retire.”“I want the Biden Administration to be successful,” Birx said in an interview with Newsy. “I will be helpful in any role people think I can be helpful in, and then I will retire.”The Coronavirus Task Force member said her family motivated her decision.“This experience has been a bit overwhelming. It's been very difficult on my family,” Birx told Amber Strong in a clip shared on Twitter. Birx talked about her parents and family members who have been isolated for ten months and have become depressed, “as I’m sure many elderly have.” 644

Echoing sentiments shared before Thanksgiving, the CDC is pleading with Americans to stay home this holiday season to slow the spread of the coronavirus."The best thing for Americans to do in the upcoming holiday season is to stay at home and not travel,'' said Dr. Henry Walke, CDC's COVID-19 incident manager, during a news briefing Wednesday."Cases are rising. Hospitalizations are increasing, Deaths are increasing. We need to try to bend the curve, stop this exponential increase,'' Walke continued. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had similar advice ahead of Thanksgiving, and still the TSA reported some of the highest rates of passengers since the pandemic started in the few days ahead of the holiday. On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the TSA screened 1.17 million travelers, a record high since the pandemic started. For those who decide to travel, the CDC now recommends people get tested for COVID-19 both before and after their trips. Their guidance is to test one to three days before travel and again three to five days after travel. They also strongly recommend reducing nonessential activities and quarantining for several days around travel.Health experts, including the White House coronavirus task force is urging those who don’t get tested to act like they could be infectious and quarantine after travel to reduce the potential spread.Walke said the CDC expects to see an increase in the already high level of coronavirus cases in the next few days from Thanksgiving travel. There have been more than 13.7 million positive cases of coronavirus in this country since the pandemic started, more than 180,000 new cases were recorded December 2. More than 271,000 Americans have died from COVID-19. 1738
EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - Have you ever asked yourself what goes into a guitar? One of the biggest manufacturers in the world runs operations from El Cajon. As part of our 10News “Life in El Cajon” series, we take you inside the music powerhouse that is Taylor Guitars.Seven-hundred guitars a day are pumped out between the manufacturing plant in El Cajon and Tecate, Mexico. From its distribution center in Amsterdam, guitars go to all corners of the world. While guitars are sent to remote areas, they're also in the hands of music's most well known stars, from Taylor Swift, Prince, and George Straight, to Alan Jackson, David Matthews and Ben Harper, the list goes on.Chris Wellons, the VP of Manufacturing talks about the company's mission. First, at Taylor Guitars there's an emphasis on finding your fit. That means physical fit and musical fit. A guitar should be comfortable, and its sound should complement your playing style. Wellons says the company is a leader in sustainability. For every Koa tree they cut down in Hawaii, they plant three behind it.Success has followed Taylor Guitars. It's bringing in 5 million a year. How? Wellons says valuing their work force, and their customers, as well as one other ingredient to greatness: courage."Just have the courage to pick up a guitar and try it," said Wellons. The philosophy is inscribed on the entry wall inside their El Cajon plant. The wall reads:We believe at the heart of every greataccomplishment you will find a singlecommon ingredient: COURAGE.It's courage that allows us to explore,to push forward,to venture into the unknown. And while the decision to do so may seemobvious afterwards, it wasn't at the time.Because each time we make the boldchoice, or go down the narrow road,we put something at risk. Our Ego,Our Reputation,Our Livelihood.Without courage we would never dare, never change, never inspire. That's why whether you're a guitar player,or a guitar builder, the world needs more of it.Step forward...music is waiting. 2009
