NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The second and final debate of the U.S. presidential election will be held at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, starting at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 22.Originally, the Commission on Presidential Debates scheduled three forums between the candidates. The second debate, which would have been held town hall style, was canceled after President Donald Trump declined to participate when the commission announced the debate would be held virtually due to Trump's recent coronavirus infection.Who’s participating? The debate will be moderated by Kristen Welker, a White House correspondent for NBC News and co-anchor of “Weekend TODAY.” It will be Welker's first general election debate she has moderated, but she co-moderated the fifth Democratic debate during the 2020 primary season.President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden plan on participating in the debate. No other candidates, like Libertarian Jo Jorgensen, qualified to take part in the debate, based on the Commission on Presidential Debates’ candidate selection criteria. What will be discussed? The debate commission allows each moderator to decide which topics are discussed. Last Friday, Welker announced that the following topics would be addressed Thursday night: fighting COVID-19, American families, race in America, climate change, national security, and leadership.Earlier this week, Trump’s campaign manager, Bill Stepien, claimed the CPD had “promised” that Thursday’s debate would be about foreign policy and asked for Welker’s topics to be discarded. However, CPD responded and said “no debate in 2020 was ever designated by (the commission) as devoted to foreign or domestic policy."With that said, the president is expected to still grill Biden on his son Hunter’s business ties, as well as his foreign policy record in the Obama administration and as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, The Washington Post reports. How will the debate be structured? After the first debate went off the rails, because the candidates constantly spoke over each other, the CPD announced changes Monday to “ensure a more orderly discussion.”As with the first debate, both campaigns have agreed to allow each candidate two minutes of uninterrupted time to make remarks at the beginning of each 15-minute segment of the debate. This time, however, “the only candidate whose microphone will be open during these two-minute periods is the candidate who has the floor under the rules,” the CPD said in a statement. Both mics will then be turned back on for an open discussion. What is being done to protect against coronavirus? The commission says Trump and Biden will again skip the traditional handshake before the debate starts and the audience will be required to wear masks. How can you watch? The debate will run for 90 minutes without commercial interruption. You can watch it live on our Facebook page, as well as on network and cable news channels.Where the race stands?Polls show Biden as the frontrunner in the national popular vote, leading most national polls by a 6 to 10 percent margin, but his margin in many battleground states is slimmer. Polls in a number of battleground states, such as Ohio, Iowa, Florida, and North Carolina, are within the margin of error, according to an aggregate of polls by Real Clear Politics. Biden is maintaining slight leads in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, which if he wins in addition to the states won by Hillary Clinton in 2016, would give Biden a victory. What’s next? All that will stand between Thursday's debate and Election Day is 11 days of early voting and the candidates' final appeal to voters. 3677

NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Opry Mills mall in Nashville announced plans to reopen Friday, one day after a shooting claimed the life of a 22-year-old man. The mall will reopen at 10 a.m. local time – fewer than 24 hours after a murder investigation began inside the building. There will be an enhanced Metro Nashville Police presence to ensure that shoppers and staff feel safe. The shooting happened just before 2:30 p.m. local time Thursday inside a hallway near the Auntie Anne's pretzel shop, just across from Old Navy. The victim, Demarco Churchwell, was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, where he later died. Police said the gunman is 22-year-old Justin Golson. He's been charged with homicide. As soon as shots were fired, shoppers scattered, terrified after hearing those gunshots.  "I thought I was going to die, I thought I was never going to see my husband or daughter again,” one woman said. Churchwell and the alleged shooter apparently knew each other. Police said the shooting was the result of an ongoing fight between them.  1111

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) - Surveillance cameras captured a chain-reaction, hit-and-run crash in National City Tuesday morning. For Honey Mae Kenworthy, the remnants of her totaled car are hard to look at."I cried when I saw it," said Kenworthy.Surveillance video shows the last moments the 2003 Acura TL was undamaged, parked by her husband on Cleveland Avenue outside his work in an industrial park. Just past 7 a.m., a car speeds into frame and smashes into back of her car, pushing it into the car in front of it."Upset and angry whenever I see it ... he's obviously not paying any attention," said Kenworthy. After the crash, the gray car backs up and parks. The driver then gets out and starts picking up his car parts. After about 5 minutes, the man gets back in the car and drives off."Just an awful person for doing that. I felt robbed of my hard work ... had just paid of the vehicle," said Kenworthy. The driver didn't quite get everything. He left several parts, including a section of his right front bumper. Kenworthy says those parts belong to a Lexus, giving police a few more clues. Without an identification on the mystery driver, she's out of luck since she doesn't have comprehensive coverage. The car was likely going to be her 15-year-old son's first car."I feel really bad I might not have anything for him. For me it was a reward for all his hard work," said Kenworthy.Anyone with information on the case is asked to call National City Police at 619-336-4411. 1491

Natalie Portman has decided against traveling to Jerusalem to receive the Genesis Prize, the foundation behind the award announced. The Genesis Prize Foundation said Thursday that a representative for the actress informed the organization that "recent events in Israel have been extremely distressing to her and she does not feel comfortable participating in any public events in Israel" and that "she cannot in good conscience move forward with the ceremony."Dubbed "the Jewish Nobel," the Genesis Prize "honors extraordinary individuals who serve as an inspiration to the next generation of Jews through their outstanding professional achievement and commitment to the Jewish people and Jewish values, such as social justice, tolerance and charity."Portman, who was born in Jerusalem, was named the 2018 Genesis Prize laureate in November. The honor includes a prize of million. Past recipients have included former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and actor Michael Douglas.Foundation officials said the Oscar-winning actress had committed to regift "to philanthropic programs focused on advancing women's equality in all aspects of human endeavor."Portman starred in and directed "A Tale of Love and Darkness," a Hebrew-language film shot in Israel and based on a novel by Israeli writer Amos Oz, in 2015.She is well-known for her social activism on gender equality and poverty issues."I am deeply touched and humbled by this honor," Portman said in a statement in November. "I am proud of my Israeli roots and Jewish heritage; they are crucial parts of who I am. It is such a privilege to be counted among the outstanding Laureates whom I admire so much."Originally set for June 28, the prize ceremony has been canceled. It was to honor nongovernmental organizations working on women's equality and empowerment issues."We extend our apologies to everyone who has been affected by this decision, particularly to the hundreds of international guests who made plans to fly to Jerusalem to honor Ms. Portman and celebrate the contribution of Jewish women to humanity, the main theme of this year's ceremony," foundation officials said in a statement. "The Genesis Prize Foundation remains committed to making grants to advance the cause of women's equality."CNN has reached out to reps for Portman for comment.  2327
