HESPERIA, Calif. (KGTV) - Snow and ice created dangerous conditions for Southern California drivers on the ‘White Christmas’ Tuesday morning. In San Diego County, drivers spun out on icy roads in higher elevations, including Sunrise Highway on Mount Laguna.On Interstate 15, dozens of cars piled up on the northbound lanes in the high desert city of Hesperia, Victor Valley News reported. Mobile phone video showed a man yelling for people to leave the road, followed by the sounds of crashing cars. "As soon as I hit the top of the hill, it was ice, black ice. I crashed and everyone else around me was crashing too," Brian Bolik told Victor Valley News. "A car behind us went over the embankment and rolled." Bolik said he and another off-duty EMT heard a woman screaming in the pileup, VVN reported."I knew I needed to pull her out of the situation because the cars were just coming and coming, and then diesel trucks were also coming fast and she couldn't get out," stated Bolik. "She had a broken leg. At the time I didn't think about getting hit by other cars, I just wanted to help the lady to safety," Bolik told VVN. HAMILTON, Bermuda (AP) — A Pennsylvania college student who disappeared following a rugby tournament in Bermuda was found dead Monday after an intensive search of the British island territory.Searchers found the body of Mark Dombroski, 19, at the base of a colonial-era fort in a park not far from where he was last seen walking by himself on CCTV footage, officials with the Bermuda Police Service said at a news conference.A cause of death was not released but forensic experts were still processing the scene where his body was found and an autopsy was planned, said Acting Commissioner James Howard."Bermuda Police Service extends our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends," Howard said after a day of searching that included local authorities, volunteers and Dombroski's family.Dombroski was a member of the rugby team at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia and had come to Bermuda to compete in a tournament. He disappeared early Sunday, with video footage showing him walking alone and looking at his phone as he left a bar where his friends had gathered.He was found at the base of Fort Prospect in a wooded area known as the arboretum and near an athletic center where the team had played during the tournament.Dombroski's family rushed to the island to join the search and retrace his steps."We dearly love our son, we cherish our son. ... We want him back," his mother, Lisa Dombroski, said at a news conference with police officials. "We thank the citizens of Bermuda. People have been with us shoulder to shoulder throughout this ordeal."Detective Sgt. Jason Smith said there's no evidence Dombroski was drunk, or that alcohol played a role in his disappearance.Lisa Dombroski speculated her son, who had hurt his shoulder in a game that day and wasn't feeling well, had simply wanted to call it a night. GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A 5-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after she was attacked by a bear overnight in east Orchard Mesa.The girl had gone outside around 2:30 a.m. early Sunday to investigate noises she thought were being made by her dog, the girl’s mother told Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers.But the girl’s mother heard her daughter screaming and went outside to see a “large black bear” dragging her daughter, CPW officials said. The bear dropped the girl after her mother screamed at it. Their home is in the east Orchard Mesa area, above the Colorado River corridor, officials said.The girl was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction with serious injuries, CPW said. Radio traffic from first responders said she had been bitten on her back and near her head.Officers were tracking the bear, along with federal wildlife officials, on Sunday morning. CPW said area residents could expect to see law enforcement officials and hounds in the area, and ask anyone to report bear sightings to officials. 1045
