PHOENIX, Ariz. -- A 17-year-old is in custody after reportedly firing a rifle at Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers Thursday morning in Phoenix, and authorities are searching for a second suspect in connection with the incident.According to DPS Captain Jesse Galvez, on Thursday morning, two uniformed troopers were in their vehicle near 35th Avenue and Roosevelt Street when suspects in a vehicle passed and stopped nearby.The driver honked the horn as the teen got out and started firing an assault rifle, according to DPS.The troopers were able to exit their vehicle and return fire. At that point, the driver reportedly sped off, leaving the teen behind. He was then taken into custody. 706

PARKLAND, Fla. — On Monday, the State Attorney's Office released a 217-page transcript of Nikolas Cruz's conversation with a Broward Sheriff's Office detective hours after he was arrested on Feb. 14 for opening fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School killing 17 people.The interview was conducted by Detective John Curcio on February 14, at 6:09 p.m.The detective began with a series of standard questions, such as asking Cruz his name, where he was born and how old he is.Shortly after the interview began, the detective leaves the room to get some water. While he was alone in the interview room but still being recorded, Cruz said, "Just kill me. Just f***ing kill me. F***."Later in the interview, Cruz admitted to detective Curcio that he was depressed, going back to when his mother was still alive.Cruz described loneliness and solitude as reasons for his depression. 912

Plans to build a new 4-acre, .5 million park in National City got a boost this week, thanks to a partnership with the federal government.The Environmental Health Coalition will help the city plan the park and the surrounding area, to make sure people can access the park without having to drive there.National City is one of just 10 communities across the country chosen for the Safe Routes to Parks Initiative.The new park will be near 22nd Street and Harding, where an empty field sits right now. As part of the construction, the EHC will help design safer streets around the park."Kids are trying to get from point a to point b and they have to cross through that main road," explains City Engineer Jose Lopez. "Without enhancements to the road, there's no way a 10-year old or 5-year old can cross the street."The EHC will help the city plan curb extensions, a median refuge island in crosswalks and local trails to let people walk through parks instead of along busy streets.According to a release announcing the partnership, communities chosen for the program had high rates of crime and violence, and also high rates of weight-related chronic diseases. The Safe Routes to Parks program  hopes to increase park use and help communities become healthier and safer.Right now the park is still in the planning stages. Police say that a Massachusetts home owned by Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady and his wife, model Gisele Bündchen, was broken into early Monday morning.According to the Brookline Massachusetts Police Department, police were notified when a home security alarm was triggered at Brady's home just before 6 a.m. Monday.Using security cameras in the house, police were able to see that the suspect had moved to the basement. "Multiple" units responded, and when they arrived, they found the suspect lying on a couch in the middle of the room.Police arrested the suspect, 34-year-old Zanini Cineus, formerly of Brockton, Massachusetts. He's with breaking and entering, attempted larceny and trespassing. Police say he was also wanted for "several active warrants" in other parts of the state.Police did not report that anything was stolen from Brady's home.Brady played quarterback for the New England Patriots — who play their home games about an hour south of Brookline in Foxboro — from 2000 to 2019.
