SAN MARCOS (CNS) - A man who reported his car stolen in San Marcos earlier this week caught a lucky break when he spotted his car in the same area today with the suspected thief inside -- but the suspect left before police were able to apprehend him.The man called law enforcement Wednesday morning to report his car had been taken from his apartment complex on Smilax Road near state Route 78, according to San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Dave Perkins.Around 9 a.m. Sunday, the man called the Sheriff's Department and told deputies he had seen his car parked nearby with an unknown man inside it, Perkins said.The man reported seeing the suspect get out of his car and walk away. Deputies searched the area and detained a possible suspect, but it was determined he hadn't been involved in the crime, Perkins said.The suspected car thief remained at large. 863

(KGTV) — San Marcos is taking a stricter stance on pet control.A newly passed ordinance allows the city to label people “irresponsible pet owners” and levy harder penalties.The city or the San Diego County Humane Society can impound the animals of people who are declared “irresponsible owners” under the ordinance and ban hem from owning any animals for up to three years.According to the rules, an “irresponsible owner” is an individual who has received three of more citations in the last two years for an unrestrained animal, guard dog, dangerous animal or nuisance violation.Dangerous animals per the ordinance are those that have attacked a person or another domestic animal two times within four years, or have injured or killed a person once within four years. 795

SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. — Authorities are asking people to be on alert after a man in a white SUV attempted to lure a 10-year-old girl in San Tan Valley, Arizona on Wednesday. According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, shortly before 4 p.m., a 10-year-old girl was walking with a friend near a park in the North Pecan Creek neighborhood when a man driving a white SUV pulled up next to them.The man reportedly told the girl that her brothers were in a serious accident and that she needed to go with him. The girl then asked the man what the "code word" was, but the man did not know and drove off."Kudos to the parents of this child for having a code word and talking about to their children about stranger danger," said Sheriff Mark Lamb.
