SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Three rescued pilot whales have been transported to San Diego to continue their recovery from a mass stranding in 2012.SeaWorld San Diego welcomed 7-year-old short-finned pilot whales — Ace, Ava, and Piper — to the park Monday from SeaWorld's Orlando park. The three whales are the only surviving pilot whales from a mass stranding event near Fort Pierce, Fla., in 2012.The trio was rescued and rehabilitated by SeaWorld Orlando, but the National Marine Fisheries Service determined the three whales couldn't be returned to the wild since they were dependent calves at the time of their rescue.The whales will also join Argo, a pilot whale rescued after stranding on a beach near Kamogawa, Japan, in 2004. Argo was transported from Japan to San Diego in 2012.The new pilot whales are currently adjusting to their new habitat at the Dolphin Amphitheater and will be introduced to Argo over the next several days, SeaWorld says.As part of the transport, two of SeaWorld San Diego's beluga whales have been relocated to SeaWorld San Antonio. 1065

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego International Auto Show announced Wednesday that its 2020 lineup was cancelled.The show was set to take place from December 31 through January 3.“After careful and extensive consideration of the health risks and other factors resulting from COVID-19, the New Car Dealers Association San Diego County will be unable to hold and unfortunately must cancel the San Diego International Auto Show,” the New Car Dealers Association of San Diego County said.The next event is scheduled to take place from December 30, 2021 through January 2, 2022.“As much as we wanted to move forward with the show for all of those who eagerly anticipate it each year, the outbreak of COVID-19 and the pandemic has resulted in a situation where we are unable to hold the show. Of course, the health and safety of all of the workers, exhibitors and attendees who make the auto show such a special event are of vital importance,” said Dean Mansfield, president of the New Car Dealers Association San Diego County, which owns and produces the San Diego International Auto Show. “And given the incredible amount of planning exhibitors must do long in advance of an event of this size and the expenses incurred by all parties, we have endeavored to provide notice of cancellation as soon as reasonably possible,” continued Mansfield. 1346

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- This year, the Drug Enforcement Administration is adding vaping products to the list of what they’ll accept on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The agency will be accepting prescriptions and vaping products on October 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to the agency, nearly 10 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs in 2018. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that there have been 33 deaths in 24 states and nearly 1,500 lung injuries from vaping in 2019.The agency is treating the events like an outbreak, saying the best advice is to avoid using all forms of E-Cigarettes. The DEA decided to add vaping products to their drug take back event to make sure they're safely removed."If people throw them away, if people dump them down the toilet, if people store them in a drawer, they're still not safe," says DEA Special Agent in Charge Colin Roane." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego City Council has voted to tentatively approve a prohibition of electric scooters on the city’s boardwalks. The Council voted 5-4 Monday afternoon to approve the ban. The prohibition will include Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Mission Bay Park Bayside Walk and the La Jolla Shores Boardwalk.
