They died heroes by rushing to help after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Now their actions and legacy are being preserved in a unique way. They are the namesakes of specially-trained dogs tasked with keeping us safe.After six years working together, you'd think much of the work Roxanne Sherwin does with her explosive detection K-9 at the Transportation Security Administration is just going through the motions."This is all just a game for him," Sherwin says.But there's one thing that always makes her pause; calling his name."Every time I call his name I think about the family and what he's doing," Sherwin says. "And that he's out here every day to make sure that that doesn't happen again."Her K-9 Qquappe is named in honor of Lincoln Quappe, a first response firefighter in New York City who died in the 9-11 terrorist attacks."What did you think when you found out where his name came from?" Correspondent Kumasi Aaron asked Sherwin. "I had no idea that they had that program."Qquappe is just one of hundreds of dogs that were named after 911 victims as a part of the TSA Puppy Program from 2002 to 2012. From the moment Sherwin found out, every scent, every sniff with Qquappe took on new meaning."It took a minute to digest that because that's a big responsibility," Sherwin says. "You're taking on someones namesake like that and you want to be the best that you can be so you can uphold it. To the honor that they did."It meant even more when Sherwin met one of Lincoln Quappe's childhood friends, and sent pictures of Qquappe to his family."It hit home," Sherwin says. "It really hit's home with all the victims because it's not just a name that's there. You're actually talking to somebody that knew this person and grew up with them and knew all about them."While Qquappe might not understand the significance of his name, Sherwin says he embodies the same desire to protect and serve as his namesake."He's such a people lover," Sherwin says. "He loves children. He loves his job."And working alongside Qquappe, with everything he and his name represent, makes Sherwin love hers even more."Does it give you a sense of pride?" Trying to find them is often an exercise in futility.Throw in Windex spray, Scrubbing Bubbles shower cleaner, and Formula 409, and they round out the list of popular disinfecting products that are nearly impossible to find in stores these days.Coleman Henderson, owner of a house cleaning company, said he often has to tell homeowners he can't come out that week because of disinfectant shortages."I have to postpone jobs because I can't get cleaning supplies." Henderson said.You can sometimes find these items for sale on Amazon (from third-party sellers) or eBay, but you may have to pay two to three times the retail price, if you can find them at all."People are really struggling right now, " said Grace Brombach, of the consumer watchdog group U.S. PIRG. "The last thing that they need to worry about is going online and finding the products that they really need to keep themselves safe at ridiculous prices."National brands remain in short supplyStan Beck, owner of a hardware store, said that even though national brands like Windex or Johnson are hard to find, off-brand products are often just as good."This is a basic product, like Windex, just a different brand," he said, pointing to a shelf of Brillo window cleaner in his store. "Absolutely. We're trying to keep up on what supplies we can. Some things are just not available."It's the same situation at grocery stores like Kroger.The spokeswoman for the nation's largest grocery chain, Kroger, Erin Rolfes said "our suppliers are continuing to work extra hours to keep up with the ongoing customer demand," but said shoppers buy out wipes and disinfectants the moment they are put on the shelves.So what can you do?Visit your grocery store midweek, first thing in the morning, when those wipes and other products are put out.Purchase store brands, or off brands, when you find them, especially when it comes to wipes and toilet cleaners.Visit your local hardware store, and get to know the manager. Some will hold products for you if you ask.Check Amazon frequently.But U.S. PIRG says resist the urge to pay double or triple the price on eBay, because that encourages sellers to charge even more.And report gouging to Amazon customer service. At least 10 others were wounded.So far, two victims have been publicly identified: a substitute teacher and an exchange student from Pakistan.Houston Texans defensive end JJ Watt has offered to pay for the funerals of the victims, according to a Houston Texans spokeswoman.Here's what we know about those who died:Cynthia TisdaleCynthia Tisdale was a substitute teacher at Santa Fe High School, her family told CNN. Her niece, Leia Olinde, said the family was notified of her death Friday night.Tisdale's brother-in-law, John Tisdale, said in a Facebook post Friday night that she was a member of the Anchor Bible Baptist Church in Pharr, Texas.John Tisdale also said in his post that his sister-in-law's husband, William Recie Tisdale, is "in bad health with a terminal lung disease." The couple has four children.Cynthia Tisdale's son, Recie Tisdale, told The Washington Post that his mother loved children and teaching."She started substitute teaching because she loved to help children," he told the newspaper. "She didn't have to do it.
