The culprit was the end piece that plugs into the computer. Getting it repaired could have cost him between and 0, so Warth tried to fix it himself - and failed.In early September, Warth saw a notice for a fixit clinic at a Goodwill store in Serra Mesa, organized by the nonprofit Zero Waste San Diego. For the last four years, the group has been offering free, monthly clinics to help fix the broken: from blenders and barbecues, to lamps and fans.Fixit volunteer Michael Gleason joined the group after he retired. "When we fix someone's lamp and it lights up and the owner's face lights up.  That's the reward for me," said Gleason.He says his success rate is about 50%. 1036

Its goal is to help offer pain relief for severely burned koalas. The device, the Oska Pulse, uses electromagnetic pulses to help damaged cells heals. The goal is to speed up the recovery process to allow the animals begin rehabilitation sooner. 487

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A fourth suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 44-year-old in Bay Terraces back in June.San Diego Police say 27-year-old Leaoaisemativa Sandoval was arrested on Dec. 19 and charged with the murder of Sean Nixon. Prosecutors say on June 6, Nixon was strangled with a strap from a marijuana grow tent inside a home on Freed Manor Lane.SDPD officers have also arrested Glenn Montano, Alfredo Sales Montano Jr., and Joshua Barnum. All were booked into County Jail for murder.The District Attorney’s Office says that Glen Montano wrapped the strap around the victim’s neck, while Alfredo Montano struck Nixon multiple times and kicked him while he was being strangled.Two of the suspects, who are brothers, were allegedly running an illegal gambling den and cannabis grow operation at the home. 840

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - UC San Diego Health and UCSD School of Medicine Friday announced that the university's Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine is significantly ramping up testing for COVID-19, projecting a capacity to complete 1,000 to 1,500 tests per day within two to three weeks.The interdisciplinary team of scientists and physicians from the school and hospital partnered with five in vitro diagnostics manufacturers in the effort -- Thermo Fisher Scientific, Roche Diagnostics, GenMark Diagnostics, Luminex Corporation and Abbott Diagnostics."UC San Diego has always been a recognized national leader in developing industry partnerships for the greater good," UCSD Chancellor Pradeep Khosla said.
