For the first time in roughly four months, weekly jobless claims in the U.S. have risen. The Department of Labor’s latest reports shows 1.4 million people filed new jobless claims, compared to 1.3 million people the week prior.“People are overwhelmed by the news. They are overwhelmed when they see that a million extra people just filed for unemployment,” said Sarah Johnston, a job search strategist.Johnston runs the company Briefcase Coach and specializes in helping people find work in this job market.“The good news is my clients and I know from looking at LinkedIn’s update, people are getting jobs,” said Johnston.Finding a job right now, with such high unemployment, is not easy. If you can get to know the hiring manager before new jobs post, you have a better chance of topping their list of candidates.“Tip number one is to understand what your options are. You really need to know your target companies, who hires people like you for work that you want to do,” said Johnston.She recommends creating a “target list” of the companies you want to work for and find out who are the hiring managers.Then, move on to tip number two, which is seeing who in your existing network may know or have connections to those managers or someone in that list of companies.“The final tip would be to not be afraid of being proactive in your job search and making contact or reaching out or getting an introduction to a hiring manager at your dream company or companies on your target list,” said Johnston. “It only takes one conversation to change the entire trajectory of your job search.”Johnston’s in-depth course on navigating the hidden job market is available on LinkedIn. Forget the shirt and shoes; no service for people on horseback at Starbucks in Anthem, Arizona. A Valley girl is frustrated after trying to ride her horse through the drive-thru when the barista said nay. Aspen Cline had seen internet videos of others riding their horses through the Starbucks drive-thru and decided that's what she wanted to do for her birthday. Instead, she and her horse, Scout, were shut down by the barista who apparently wasn't into horsing around. "We weren't given a reason, just, "we can't take your order," said Aspen. "My friend and I were going to get frappuccinos for us and a cup of whipped cream for the horses." A Starbucks spokesperson told us, officially, their drive-through is for cars only. He said that policy is for animal, rider and employee safety. But, he also added that the horses caught the barista off guard and with a little-advanced notice next time they'll find a way to serve all creatures."We support Starbucks because they're very accepting," said Tandy Cline, Aspen's mom. FOSTER CITY, Calif. – The maker of remdesivir, a drug shown to shorten recovery time for severely ill COVID-19 patients, has released its pricing for the treatment.Gilead announced Monday that it will charge ,340 for a typical treatment course for people covered by government health programs in the United States and other “developed countries.”As for Americans with private insurance, they’ll be charged ,120, “because of the way the U.S. system is set up and the discounts that government healthcare programs expect,” Gilead said.Based on current treatment patterns, Gilead said the vast majority of patients are expected to receive a five-day treatment course using six vials of remdesivir. Individually, each vial will cost 0 for those covered by a government insurer, and 0 per vile for those with a private insurer.In poorer countries, with less health care resources, generic drugmakes will be allowed to make the drug and sell it for far less than in the U.S.The pricing has already come under fire, because the development of the drug was largely funded by taxpayer money.Gilead’s CEO, Daniel O’Day, wrote in an open letter that the company approached its pricing decision with the aim of helping as many patients as possible, as quickly as possible.“At the level we have priced remdesivir and with government programs in place, along with additional Gilead assistance as needed, we believe all patients will have access,” wrote O’Day.O’Day said Gilead has entered into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) whereby HHS and states will continue to manage allocation to hospitals until the end of September.
