The US Department of Education has opened an investigation into the Ohio State University's handling of former students' allegations of sexual misconduct by a school doctor, according to the university.The federal investigation will be conducted by the department's Office for Civil Rights (OCR), which oversees Title IX complaints, the school said in a statement Thursday.The inquiry, led by the OCR's regional office in Cleveland, Ohio, "will examine whether the university is responding promptly and equitably to complaints and reports by former students," the statement said, "including allegations that employees knew or should have known about the sexual misconduct and allowed the abuse to continue."The scandal surrounding the alleged actions of the late Dr. Richard Strauss has grown since the university first announced in April its own investigation, headed by the law firm Perkins Coie, to look into claims made by male former athletes on 14 sports teams.Since then, more than 100 former Ohio State University students have reported firsthand accounts of sexual misconduct by Strauss, the school said last month.Some of them, mostly former student athletes, have come forward to publicly claim that Strauss sexually abused them under the guise of a medical examination.According to the school, the alleged abuse took place between 1979 and 1997."We welcome the involvement and careful oversight of OCR and look forward to providing any information we can," said Gates Garrity-Rokous, the school's vice president and chief compliance officer, in a statement about the US Department of Education's investigation."We responded promptly and appropriately to the allegations received in April about Dr. Strauss," Garrity-Rokous continued. The Tampa Police Department is searching for a young man who was caught on camera doing a skateboard trick across a custom-painted car in Ybor City.A spokesperson for the police department said the case is being investigated as a felony criminal mischief. Detectives would like to speak with Dalton Newbury as a person of interest. According to those who have shared the video that's getting thousands of shares on Facebook, it was originally posted to Instagram by the skateboarder himself. The two Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies who were shot in an ambush-style attack on Saturday are out of surgery and expected to survive their injuries, according to reports from ABC News, CNN and The Washington Post.Alex Villanueva, the LA County Sheriff, told CNN Sunday night that it looked like the two injured officers would be able to recover from their injuries, but the long-term impacts on their health are currenlty unknown."We'll see what the long-term impact is. We don't know that yet, but they survived the worst," Villanueva reportedly said during a community dialogue event, according to CNN.A suspect ambushed the two officers as they sat in a police car near a Compton metro station on Saturday night. Surveillance video posted by the department on Twitter shows a man walk up to the passenger side of the patrol car, raise a gun to the window and open fire. The deputies were able to radio for help as the suspect ran away.The two injured deputies, a 31-year-old woman and a mother and a 24-year-old man, were relative newcomers in the department, having been on the job for 14 months.According to ABC News, officials are offering a 0,000 reward for information that could lead to the suspect's arrest.Politicians widely condemned the shooting.
