SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A college student from San Diego is in custody Monday, accused of threatening to open fire on a school campus. Last week, a person posted a screenshot of what investigators believe is a text conversation with Trevor Faison in which he sent a message threatening to “shoot up the school.” Exactly which school he was referring to was initially unclear. According to Chief Joseph Ramos at the San Diego Community College District, Faison had been a student at Mesa College last semester but was no longer enrolled. Ramos said Faison is currently attending Saddleback College in Orange County. According to Gerry Braun, a spokesperson for the San Diego City Attorney's Office, police eventually "determined the criminal threat was made against an individual at La Jolla High School."RELATED: Team 10: The City Attorney's office effort to obtain gun violence restraining ordersBraun added, "there is another pending case in Orange County with similar circumstances." SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three Palomar College students will attend a national technology summit Wednesday to meet with students from around the country and share their work focusing on technological innovation.Quin Smith, a geologic information systems student, and drone technology students Isaac Hernandez and Diana Perez received scholarships from the National Science Foundation and the American Association of Community Colleges to attend the three-day Advanced Technology Education conference in Washington, D.C.Two students from Palomar College attended the conference last year as well as part of an NSF grant program, according to the college."It's really exciting to have our students share their work and their experience -- not only with other students from around the country, but also with the faculty and NSF program officers who will be at the conference," geography professor and drone technology program co-founder Wing Cheung said.The three students are expected to learn more about technology careers and development from industry professionals and some 850 student attendees.The ATE conference is in its 26th year, according to the AACC."This is going to help me learn how to break into the field and see what I want to do because we'll get to see all kinds of applications (for drone technology) we wouldn't have even thought about," Perez said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A driver heading the wrong-way on Interstate 805 died following a fiery crash with another vehicle Saturday.A Mitsubishi Lancer traveling the wrong-way on southbound I-805 near the I-8 connector collided with a Toyota SUV just before 3 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol. The collision sparked a fire, engulfing both vehicles, CHP said.Both drivers were transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to California Highway Patrol. The wrong-way driver later died. Another vehicle received minor damages in the wreck. That driver received minor injuries.CHP was still investigating where the wrong-way driver entered the freeway. It's not clear if alcohol or drugs was a factor in the crash.A portion of I-805 was closed as crews cleared the scene, but was reopened before 7 a.m. Saturday. 855
