BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping Tuesday concluded his two-day official visit to Bangladesh and started his trip to Laos, the second leg of his four-nation tour.In Dhaka on Tuesday, Xi met separately with the country's opposition leader, parliament speaker and president.In talks with Khaleda Zia, chairperson of Bangladesh's main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Xi lauded what Zia has done to promote the Sino-Bangladeshi relationship.He said China appreciates very much Bangladesh's precious support on issues concerning China's core interests like the issues of Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang.He said China supports Bangladesh's economic development and will continue to do its best to help the south Asian country.Zia said China is a close and friendly neighbor of Bangladesh. "Bangladesh always regards China as an important strategic partner," she said.Talking with Bangladeshi Parliament Speaker Abdul Hamid, Xi spoke highly of the comprehensive development of bilateral relations since both countries established diplomatic relations 35 years ago.He reiterated China's commitment to work with Bangladesh to push forward their comprehensive partnership of cooperation. He also called on the legislatures of both countries to further strengthen communication and promote mutual understanding.Hamid said the Sino-Bangladeshi relationship is time-honored and all the parties in the Bangladeshi parliament support developing relations with China.In talks with President Zillur Rahman, Xi said the Sino-Bangladeshi relations have stood the test of changes in the world situation and continually move forward."The cooperation in all areas is very fruitful and has brought real benefits to the two peoples and also plays an active role in maintaining regional stability, peace and development," he added.Xi said the two countries' decision to establish a "Closer Comprehensive Partnership of Cooperation" last March showed the direction for further developing bilateral relationship.Rahman said Bangladesh and China maintain good relationship. BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Health issued a circular Wednesday advising the nation's medical facilities to gear up for a rise in the number of people suffering from heat-stroke and other heat related ailments given the recent hot temperatures.The number of people suffering from heat-stroke and related disorders has risen sharply over the last few days, reads the circular without giving specific figures.Beijing-based Chaoyang hospital reported a significant increase of cases showing heat-induced symptoms such as dizziness, according to the Health News, the health ministry-run newspaper.The hospital has 450 such cases in emergency care each day now, compared to 360 cases just a few days ago.The ministry ordered hospitals across the nation to make sure people suffering from heat stroke get timely and proper treatment.Beijing reported an average temperature of 40.3 degrees Celsius at 4 p.m. Monday, the highest temperature in the first 10 days of July in 50 years.The capital city cooled a little bit Wednesday, and rains are expected for China eastern regions starting Thursday, offering some respite.

XI'AN, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has urged local authorities to keep flood casualties and losses to minimum and to launch reconstruction work in a timely and orderly way.Hui was speaking during an inspection of flood-affected areas in Weinan and Shangluo cities in north China's Shaanxi Province from Aug. 2 to 3.He visited affected residents, as well as soldiers who were fighting the floods, saying the flood work had entered a crucial stage.Since mid July, many areas in Shaanxi Province have seen continuous rain, leading to frequent natural disasters, such as floods, mountain torrents and mud-rock flows.Continuous rainstorms caused mud-rock flows in Zhulinguan Village of Danfeng County, Shangluo city, on July 23 and 24. Hui visited the village and urged officials to address food, drinking water, clothing and housing issues.He also called for the repair of roads and resumption of water and electricity supplies as soon as possible.Homes, schools and hospitals should be reconstruction priorities, he said.Meteorologists forecast higher than average rainfall this month along the province's Hanjiang and Weihe rivers. Hui ordered local governments to intensify flood warnings, improve response plans, reinforce reservoirs and river embankments and replenish emergency materials, so as to be well prepared for more rain and floods.
