SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 41-year-old La Vegas man was killed when he crashed his motorcycle into a concrete guardrail on a freeway connector ramp in La Mesa, authorities said Thursday.The crash happened around 5:55 p.m. Wednesday on the connector ramp from eastbound Interstate 8 to northbound state Route 125, California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Christy said.A man was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he allowed the bike to veer to the right and strike a concrete guardrail, Christy said. The impact ejected the rider off of the motorcycle, over the guardrail and onto the traffic lanes of westbound I-8.The rider, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene, the officer said. 735

SAN DIEGO — SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A life science development firm has unveiled plans to transform eight acres along San Diego's waterfront into a mixed-use hub that could attract numerous leading edge companies to the city.Development firm IQHQ announced Monday that it closed on the site along Harbor Drive and will break ground on the project's first phase this week. The firm says it has entitlements and key permits for new office, lab and support retail space for the complex, called the San Diego Research and Development District, or RaDD. In a news release, the firm said this would be the largest urban commercial waterfront site along the Pacific Coast. The development is sure to bolster an already vibrant life sciences industry in San Diego, with biotechs clustered mostly in the Torrey Pines area. This could attract more to relocate downtown. The project would be the third major commercial development in downtown, along with the Padres plan to build office space at Tailgate Park, and the redevelopment of Horton Plaza into a tech hub."This is probably, in terms of the commercial sector, the most important pivotal moment in San Diego's modern redevelopment history," said Gary London, of commercial real estate consulting firm London Moeder Advisors.IQHQ chief executive Stephen Rosetta told ABC-10News this was the premier site to build on the west coast, if not the entire USA. "This project is really special to us because we're headquartered here in San Diego, and the partners live locally and have for most of our lives," he siad. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 17-year-old boy was pistol whipped and shot in the leg by a man who also snatched the child's cellphone Saturday morning in the Grantville community of San Diego.The teenager was talking on his cellphone in the 6100 block of Decena Drive when he was approached by the suspect at 4 a.m., who demanded his cellphone, said Officer Tony Martinez of the San Diego Police Department.The victim refused and was pistol whipped and then shot in the leg. The suspect then fled the scene with the child's cellphone, Martinez said. The boy suffered a laceration to the head and a shattered femur. Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital.The suspect was about 6-foot, 4-inches tall with a heavy build. SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A teenager was hospitalized after he was shot by a police officer in Salt Lake City Friday night.According to Salt Lake City police Sgt. Keith Horrocks, officers were dispatched to the area of 500 South and Navajo Street just after 10 p.m. on reports of a "juvenile" — police did not release his exact age — having a mental health episode and threatening people with a weapon.Police say the boy fled on foot when officers arrived, and one officer shot him.Officers administered aid until medical personnel arrived and transported the boy to a local hospital in serious condition.Wesley Barton, who said he is the boy's brother, tweeted that he is 13 years old and is in stable condition.An officer-involved critical incident protocol investigation has been launched, which includes an investigation conducted by local departments other than Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD). SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries he sustained in a stabbing attack in the Egger Highlands area.The victim and a friend were in the 1500 block of Thermal Avenue at 10:30 p.m. Friday when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up next to them and two suspects got out of the back and began fighting with the victim, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The suspects threw a bottle at the victim and stabbed him in the hip, then jumped back in the vehicle, which was last seen southbound on Thermal Avenue, Heims said.The boy was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Heims said.A detailed description of the suspects was not available. 737
