LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - The San Diego County Fair isn’t happening in 2020, but there are still ways to get your fair fix. There are virtual activities hosted through the fair, and one food vendor is still bringing fair food to the community. Chicken Charlie’s is known for deep-fried everything, from Oreos to meat, and this year, the new addition is deep fried taffy. While the fair won’t be happening, Charlie Boughosian has brought his trailer to the Grossmont Center in La Mesa to bring fried food to the community. Friday would have been the first day of the fair, so Charlie made it the first day of shop in the parking lot. “I’m feeling the same kind of pressure I feel on opening day of the fair,” he said Friday. Be prepared for a wait; the first day was a hit and the crowds showed up. He said they’ll start with hours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. then expand if possible. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Protesters gathered at the La Mesa Police Department Tuesday evening, once again calling for more transparency and accountability from the department. The protest came just a few days after the department announced that former LMPD officer Matt Dages was no longer employed with the department. Dages was the officer caught on video during the arrest of Amaurie Johnson in May. The charges against Johnson were later dropped. Activists say the department's statement about Dages' employment was vague. They want the former officer charged and arrested.In a press conference hours before the protest, Johnson said he wants equality and will keep fighting for change until it happens. The protest remained peaceful; officers did detain a counter-protester but later told ABC 10News he was released after determining no crime had been committed. 877

LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Divers searched the San Vicente Reservoir Saturday for a missing 12-year-old girl, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and San Diego Police said.The girl fell off a ski-type boat and into the water Saturday afternoon while with her family, officials said.The search started at 6 p.m. Saturday with seven divers from San Diego Fire-Rescue. The team later found the girl’s damaged life jacket in the water.By Saturday evening, the search was designated a recovery mission instead of a rescue. Divers stopped the search as night fell.The reservoir is 306 feet deep when full. It is a popular recreation spot for boating and fishing. No swimming is permitted unless it is related to water activities including water-skiing and wake boarding.The San Vicente Reservoir will be closed Sunday, according to officials. The dive team will resume recovery work at dawn with the help of sonar technology.The girl's identity was not released. 965

LAKEWOOD, Ohio - Lizzie Ackerman loves to read."We found that it's really valuable and rewarding to learn about people that are different than us,” said Ackerman.When Ackerman thought about how she would get involved with the Black Lives Matter Movement, she knew just what to do."Sharing books about people who are different than we felt like a really good way to educate ourselves and our community just about the world around us,” she said.This Lakewood resident is starting her very own little free diverse library.It will work similarly to all the little free libraries we’ve seen across Northeast Ohio, except this one will only carry books from Black authors, feature Black people or educate folks on how to be anti-racist. LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) - Deputies are searching for a suspect who shot and killed one man and sent another to the hospital in Lemon Grove Saturday night. The shooting happened just after 8 p.m. near the intersection of Main Street and Olive Street. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were flagged down and, when they got to the scene, discovered the two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were rushed to the hospital where one of the victim’s died. The victim was identified Monday as 29-year-old Henry Weaver. At this time, deputies don’t have any suspect information. 621
