Rental car company Hertz wants to help you get to the polls on Election Day.In a press release, the company announced that it offered a free rental day for customers who reserve a car for two days and pick it up either on Nov. 2 or Nov. 3."We want to make it easier for people to exercise their right to vote – especially those who need safe and reliable transportation," said Laura Smith, Hertz Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Customer Experience, in the news release. "We're happy to provide local and convenient mobility options to the communities we serve on Election Day."The promotion is valid at any Hertz neighborhood locations in the US.The company said customers must use the CDP code 210350 when making the reservation online. 762

Publix has announced they have purchased then donated more than 5 million pounds of produce and 350,000 gallons of milk to food banks across the southeast.The supermarket chain said in a press release that the initiative, which was launched back in April, was set up to support local farmers and help feed families through the Feeding America member food bank.“During these challenging times, we remain committed to working together to find the solutions that positively impact our communities in need, Publix CEO Todd Jones said in the release. "We are honored to continue our support of Feeding America member food banks and to purchase produce and milk from farmers across the Southeast. As the harvest season moves north, so is our initiative, expanding to support additional farmers and serve as many people as possible.”The company said they have purchased producers from farmers in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina and will start working with farmers in Tennessee and Virginia in the coming weeks.During the pandemic, the grocery chain said they had donated million to Feeding America and its member food banks. 1149

President Donald Trump's stance on guns has not wavered a day after he set up a meeting with National Rifle Association officials, the White House said Friday.Trump and Vice President Mike Pence met with Chris Cox, the executive director of the NRA's lobbying arm Thursday evening, who quickly tweeted that Trump and Pence "don't want gun control."That's an apparent shift from Trump's comments during a meeting with a bipartisan group of lawmakers Wednesday, when he signaled his support for policies -- such as strengthening background checks to raising the minimum age to buy certain guns and taking guns away from the mentally ill -- that are vehemently opposed by the gun lobby.Asked if Trump's thinking has changed since Wednesday's meeting, Sanders said, "not that I'm aware of." She said the only specific promise Trump made to the NRA was that "he'll support the Second Amendment. That's not something that he's backed away from. President-elect Joe Biden announced on Wednesday his first significant staff decision since being projected as the winner of last week’s presidential election.Biden chose longtime aide Ron Klain to be the White House chief of staff come January. According to the Biden campaign, Klain served as a senior adviser to the Biden for President campaign. Klain was previously Biden’s chief of staff as vice president.Klain also took on a number of roles within the Democratic administrations, including serving as the White House Ebola response coordinator in 2014 and 2015 under President Barack Obama.Previously, Klain was a key figure in the Clinton administration, serving as Vice President Al Gore’s chief of staff and a counselor to Attorney General Janet Reno.“Ron has been invaluable to me over the many years that we have worked together, including as we rescued the American economy from one of the worst downturns in our history in 2009 and later overcame a daunting public health emergency in 2014,” Biden said in a statement. “His deep, varied experience and capacity to work with people all across the political spectrum is precisely what I need in a White House chief of staff as we confront this moment of crisis and bring our country together again.”Biden is expected to begin announcing members of his cabinet in the coming weeks. 1350
