MILWAUKEE —The Milwaukee County Zoo welcomed another brand new baby giraffe to their family this month.According to the Milwaukee County Zoo, the new female calf was born one week ago to mother Marlee, and dad, Bahatika. This marks the second offspring for Marlee, and the fourth for Bahatika. The new giraffe joins young male, Kazi, the most recent giraffe born at the Zoo in September 2017.Zoo doctors say the calf weighed about 174 pounds and was approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall during her first exam.Zookeepers and medical staff have been monitoring the mother and her baby.  They say Marlee appears very calm and attentive to the calf, who is nursing regularly.Marlee is 6 yearsold, and arrived at the Milwaukee County Zoo in 2013 from Zoo Miami. Bahatika is 12-years-old and arrived in Milwaukee in 2006 from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado.The Zoo currently houses six giraffe: adults Bahatika, Marlee, Ziggy, Rahna; youngster Kazi; and the newborn. 986

MILWAUKEE — Surveillance video captured two porch pirates on a casual morning stroll. But what they don't know is that the owner of the package they're about to steal actually wants it to get taken. "Usually I get very mad when I see the package get stolen, but now this one I was like proud to show the video," said Jamie, who left a package of sweet revenge on her Milwaukee porch.Out of fear of retaliation, Jamie asked that her identity be concealed and to only use her first name. She says they've had about eight packages stolen from their front porch and have tried everything to fight back. They installed security cameras, asked for signed deliveries and even had items placed behind a fence. But somehow the thieves continued to be successful. Eventually, they decided to have everything delivered to work, but after a gift sent to her a month ago was stolen as well, she decided that was enough. "That's when we ordered the next package," she said. "We went on to a website that does anonymous deliveries and you can pick from all sorts of different fecal matter. The cheapest one is cow, we decided to go in full blast and we chose gorilla." The thieves didn't like what they had scooped up, and ended up tossing the item into a neighbor's yard. But they aren't the only thieves she's caught on camera. Video also shows a woman stealing that gift someone sent Jamie, that contained memorial stickers honoring her late father. "She threw it because it wasn't anything important to her but to me that was the most important package that had been taken off our porch," said Jamie. A neighbor ended up finding the discarded stickers in a nearby park. Jamie says she's tried to report the thefts to police, but she's been told it's a lost cause and the chances of catching these criminals are slim. So she hopes a little package payback will prevent thefts in the future. "We do live in a nice neighborhood," she said. "It's a nice a street, they're nice neighbors, we just don't know why it keeps happening to us."  2106

NATIONAL CITY (CNS) - Authorities today identified a motorcyclist who was killed in a collision at a South Bay intersection.Andrew Balderas, 21, of San Ysidro, was riding a Yamaha motorcycle eastbound in the 100 block of Mile of Cars Way just before 7 a.m. Thursday when a Toyota minivan made a left turn directly into his path at Transportation Avenue, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.Balderas, who was wearing a helmet, struck the minivan and was ejected onto the roadway, according to a Medical Examiner's Office statement.An off-duty emergency medical technician arrived shortly after the collision, called 911 and began performing CPR on Balderas, the Medical Examiner's Office said. When paramedics arrived, Balderas was unresponsive and had no pulse. He was transported to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest, but doctors were unable to revive him.The minivan driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, National City police Sgt. Jeffrey Meeks said.Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the collision, Meeks said. 1090

More than 100 students knelt on the benches of Notre Dame Stadium while "The Star-Spangled Banner" played during the school's football game against Florida State University on Saturday.Taking a knee to protest racial injustices began in 2016 when then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick knelt during the national anthem before a preseason NFL game.Kaepernick's actions were based mostly on political issues, but the students wanted to put a spin on the protest and make it a religious matter as well."We wanted to frame this movement around Notre Dame's religion, which is Catholic. Some made it a moment of silence, and others prayed," said Katie Hieatt, one of five protest organizers.Durrell Jackson, another of the organizers, began protesting earlier in the college football season with a couple of friends. That's when Shawn Wu stepped in and decided this needed to be a bigger movement.With the help of three other students, they organized the November 10 protest that led 80 of their junior classmates and about 30 students in the senior class to kneel."For me personally, this is both a political and religious issue," Jackson said. "Police brutality and racial [and] social injustice against brothers and sisters is not the Christian thing to do."The students brought back some of the school's history as they knelt in solidarity.They linked arms in prayer like the Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, who served as the school's president until 1987, and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. did in 1964 at a civil rights rally in Chicago, as they sang "We Shall Overcome."Like Hesburgh and King, the students hope to bring people together to respect one another even if they have different beliefs."Rather than being dismissed as 'just a liberal act,' many might reconsider how this movement of justice and reconciliation aligns deeply with shared values (among many) of faith, Notre Dame tradition, and Fr. Hesburgh," the group wrote in its mission statement, inviting their peers to protest with them.Brian Gatter, one of the other organizers, said their main goal was to let people know that students at Notre Dame are not just concerned with racial injustices, but also with the treatment of people when they share an opinion others don't agree with."Our main goal is to start a healthy and peaceful dialogue, rather than to keep this a one-sided conversation," Gatter said. "One of the things we want to stress the most with this movement is that this is not a protest against the military or the flag, this is about how we treat each other as human beings. We don't need to reduce people down in order to make a point. We can have a good dialogue, even if we don't agree with each other."The University of Notre Dame has not taken any disciplinary action against the students, Gatter said. Much like fired FBI Director James Comey, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe wrote memos documenting his conversations with President Donald Trump, a source with knowledge of the matter told CNN.A person familiar with the matter told CNN McCabe's memos are now in the hands of special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.The memos also detail what Comey told McCabe about his own interactions with Trump while he was FBI director and are seen as a way to corroborate Comey's account in Mueller's probe.Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe on Friday, about a day before his 50th birthday and the date he was set to retire and begin receiving his anticipated pension, over accusations that McCabe directed FBI officials to speak to the media about an investigation tied to the Clinton Foundation and misled investigators about his actions. Following his firing Friday, McCabe told CNN in an interview that he had four interactions with the President last May, while he was acting FBI director.McCabe revealed that he had three in-person interactions and one phone call with Trump, in which the President berated him each time about his wife's failed Virginia Senate campaign.It is unclear exactly what is in McCabe's memos and if he memorialized every interaction he had with the President."In May, when Director Comey was fired and I had my own interactions with the President, he brought up my wife every time I ever spoke to him," McCabe told CNN.
