SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 140 women, children and their family members will live inside Golden Hall for at least the next three months.The theater's second floor concourse will serve as a temporary bridge shelter while the city installs a new shelter tent at the corner of 17th and Imperial. Father Joe's Villages will manage the shelter, which is to serve as a transition for homeless families to find permanent housing and get on their feet. A recent city report found about 1,500 people were sleeping on San Diego's streets. The families moving into Golden Hall had been living in a bridge tent shelter at 14th and Commercial. That shelter is being removed to make way for a Father Joe's 14-story affordable housing tower. Golden Hall will have on-site residential staff and security 24 hours a day. Deacon Jim Vargas, president of Father Joe's Villages, said Golden Hall's location will present challenges when it comes to delivering key services out of Father Joe's main campus across downtown. He said these next few months will be a good test to see if something longer term could work. "I personally would love, in addition to the tent, to have some brick and mortar," said Vargas. "And if this facility works out well we'd be happy to continue as a service provider."The city is installing the new tent at 17th and Commercial over the next few months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New numbers show just how quickly housing has become unaffordable in San Diego county.Housing received a thumbs-down because the Housing Affordability Index for San Diego County decreased from 26% in December 2017 to 24% in December 2018. In 2012, more than 45% of county residents could buy a median-priced home.The report on housing affordability was part of the annual Quality of Life Dashboard released by the Equinox Project, The Nonprofit Institute at University of San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are asking for the public’s help searching for a missing 13-year-old girl who disappeared from San Diego in late November. According to police, Kymilah Wolford went missing from her home in the Emerald Hills area of Southeastern San Diego on November 30 around 10 a.m. Wolford was last seen wearing black leggings and a gray hoodie. She is described as five feet, four inches tall, weighs approximately 170 pounds and has short, black hair and brown eyes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police body-worn cameras captured the parents of Trevor Heitmann pleading with officers to hospitalize their son just hours before he killed himself and two others in a high-speed car crash.In August 2018, Trevor Heitmann, known on his popular YouTube channel as McSkillet, ultimately drove the wrong way down the 805 at speeds over 100 miles per hour before the fatal accident.A lawsuit filed against the City of San Diego claims, police officers failed “to act in accordance with the statute and carry out their mandatory duty,” and as a result, Heitmann, “subsequently and predictably endangered the lives of others and himself and drove his vehicle at speeds in excess of 100 mph, striking Aileen and Aryana Pizarro's vehicle and endangering other members of the public.”The lawsuit goes on to say, “Because he was not evaluated by defendants to determine if he was a danger to himself or others, he was able to carry on with his erratic and mentally unstable behavior, and ultimately colliding head-on with Aileen Lydia Pizarro's vehicle, and thereby, causing fatal injuries to Aileen and Aryana Pizarro." 1137
