NORTH PARK, Calif. (KGTV) - Business leaders in North Park say a little-used parking garage could help solve the debate over adding bike lanes to 30th street. The City, as part of its plan to reduce greenhouse gases, wants to install bike lanes along a nearly 2-mile stretch of 30th street, from Juniper to Howard.NORTH PARK, Calif. (KGTV) - Business leaders in North Park say a little-used parking garage could help solve the debate over adding bike lanes to 30th street. To do so, they would have to remove parking from the street. One plan would take away as many as 420 spots. That has residents and shop owners worried about the impact it would have on the area.RELATED: City could replace hundreds of parking spaces in North Park with bike lanesBut North Park Main Street, a local group representing businesses in the neighborhood, says the solution is hiding in plain sight. They point to a six-story parking garage as the answer. The garage, located along 30th Street, has room for 383 vehicles. According to a recent study, it's rarely ever more than 50% full. That means about 200 spots are going unused."I will watch people come into North Park and circle the parking garage looking for a parking spot, not knowing they're circling a place with 400 available ones," says Angela Landsberg, the Executive Director of North Park Main Street.Landsberg says the garage is often empty because there aren't enough signs letting people know it's there. She also says the only entrance, on 29th Street, makes it hard for people to access. She'd like to see the owners do more to promote it as an option for parking in the area."I think that people are not used to getting out and walking," she says. "The expectation is that we are going to pull up and have parking right next to the businesses that exist and that's not realistic looking forward."The garage charges an hour, with a daily maximum. It also charges flat rates during special events. Landsberg says it's just a matter of changing people's habits when they come to North Park."There are other communities that would kill to have a parking structure like this," she says.ACE Parking, who operates the garage, send the following statement to 10News:"ACE supports efforts by the City of San Diego and other cities to encourage alternative mobility options like cycling. Through our Mobility Solutions Division which was launched in 2018, ACE is providing solutions for clients like the City of San Diego to support local businesses while enabling initiatives like bicycle lanes. In this case, solutions to improve the utilization of North Park off-street facilities could include promoting off-street parking by communicating live space availability counts, enhancing on-street signage, enabling online reservation options, establishing convenient parking application options, and initiating fully integrated validation options. NEW YORK, N.Y. – Rush Limbaugh provided an update on his "roller coaster" battle with lung cancer Monday, saying a recent scan showed “some progression” and that it’s “in the wrong direction.”The conservative talk radio host has been seeking treatment since he announced in February that he was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. In a statement posted on his website, Limbaugh said his scans had previously shown that his treatments had “rendered the cancer dormant,” meaning they had stopped the growth of the cancer.“It had been reduced, and it had become manageable,” he said.Limbaugh said he has stage 4 lung cancer and that his team has adjusted his chemotherapy drugs with hopes of keeping additional progression at bay as long as possible.“The idea now is to keep it where it is or maybe have it reduce again. We’ve shown that that is possible. If it happened once, it can happen again,” he said. “So that’s the objective of the current treatment plan.”Limbaugh did address that his cancer is likely terminal.“It’s tough to realize that the days where I do not think I’m under a death sentence are over. Now, we all are, is the point,” he said. “We all know that we’re going to die at some point, but when you have a terminal disease diagnosis that has a time frame to it, then that puts a different psychological and even physical awareness to it.”The host has not mentioned his cancer battle that much since his diagnosis, saying that he doesn’t want to treat it as “an opportunity to bleed on the audience, to either complain or constantly update.” He says that’s because he’s not the only one going through hardships. 1637
NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department is asking to take over President Donald Trump’s defense in a defamation lawsuit from a writer who accused him of rape. Federal lawyers also asked a court Tuesday to allow a move that could put the American people on the hook for any money E. Jean Carroll might be awarded. The Justice Department lawyers argue that Trump was “acting within the scope of his office” when he denied Carroll’s allegations last year that he raped her in a New York luxury department store in the mid-1990s.She says his comments besmirched her character and harmed her career. The filing complicates, at least for the moment, Carroll’s efforts to get a DNA sample from the president as potential evidence and to have him answer questions under oath.It comes amid concerns that Attorney General William Barr has gone out of his way to intervene in other legal cases involving Trump or his allies. Barr tried to decrease the amount of prison time his office sought for Trump ally Roger Stone following a criminal trial where he was found guilty. (Stone’s sentence was later commuted by Trump.) Barr’s Justice Department has acted to dismiss its own case against former national security adviser Michael Flynn.Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, called the department’s argument “shocking.” 1314
NEW YORK — The NYPD has suspended an officer without pay who was recorded using the bullhorn on his marked police vehicle on Saturday to shout "Trump 2020."The suspension is effective immediately without pay, the NYPD said Sunday.Brandon K Hines, who shared one of the videos on social media, said the incident occurred in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn."Trump 2020. Put it on YouTube. Put it on Facebook," the officer said as the vehicle sat at an intersection with its emergency lights on.The officer also encourages an unseen person to "take a picture" several times and called them a "tough guy." 615
