A police officer in Colorado is on leave after comments he made on Facebook that allegedly threaten violence in the wake of the presidential election, according to multiple reports.The police chief in the town of Platteville became aware of the officer’s comments Wednesday afternoon and the officer was immediately placed on leave, according to The Denver Post.The officer, identified in media reports as Jason Taft, posted the following comments on Facebook on Wednesday:“If for some reason we lose do we get to be little bitches and beat the hell out of the other party like they did,” Taft wrote in his post, which was still publicly visible Thursday afternoon. “Because they don’t believe in what we do. In fact in case we actually let Biden win. There will be far fewer results than this year because we’ll help them find God. Democrats you were scared of Trump now’s the true time to be afaird. We will do what you have done to our city’s and prevail p.s. please meet me at the battle grounds.”He followed up with a comment on his original post, saying “I’m ready to leave my job just so I can hurt these people that act like they know what real life is about. They are a bunch of time out in the corner billy people. They have no clue of the true rath thats coming. Dems you thought you made a scene or statement with BLM just wait this it will be fun!”Taft continued to post Wednesday night, according to the Denver Post, encouraging people who voted for Democratic candidate Joe Biden to unfriend him.Platteville has a population of about 2,700 people, located less than an hour north of Denver.Taft has been with the department since January 2018. 1666

A viral video showing security camera footage taken in Chula Vista, California on Halloween night may help restore your faith in the honor system. Kim Manalo's family joined the throngs of trick-or-treaters racing door-to-door in their neighborhood.  Manalo wanted to keep the spirit of Halloween alive at her home while they were out, so she left a bowl filled with candy outside their door with a note asking people to help themselves.  Her hope was that people would leave a treat for the next candy-seeker."We came home to an empty bowl and hoped there weren't greedy kids that didn't leave some behind for others," Manalo wrote on her post.She studied security footage to see if perhaps someone grabbed more than their share of goodies. What Manalo found on her security camera video was a surprise that almost made her cry."Instead we found this clip of a wonderful soul who shared some candy from his own bag to keep the halloween spirit going for other kids," Manalo she wrote.The video shows one of the boys reach into his bag and place some of his own candy in the bowl for the next trick-or-treaters. “He didn't even know the camera was there,” Manalo said. “None of his friends knew and to take that second out of his time from his own stuff just really warmed my heart.”San Diego-based KGTV posted the surveillance video on Facebook after Manalo's friend shared the footage with reporter Joe Little.  The video has garnered hundreds of reactions, shares, and comments."If only all of us raised our children to be so thoughtful even when no one is seemingly looking. A recent string of extremist attacks highlights an alarming trend: a growing number of hate crimes across the country.In fact, it’s up for the fourth year in a row in most major cities, according to Brian Levin, who studies hate crimes. Levin says one possible reason for the most recent spike of attacks is the midterm elections.“We're a very polarized society,” says Levin, who works at the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism. “We're not only divided, but we're entrenched in that division.”Experts say hotly contested political races can cause a jump in hate crimes. It happened around the 2016 presidential election.“November of that year was the worst month of 14 years, going back to the first anniversary of 9/11,” Levin says.Just this week, attorneys for three men accused of planning to bomb a mosque the day after Donald Trump became president say his rhetoric during the campaign inspired the men.Now that he's president, others worry his words could motivate others.At a recent rally, President Trump stated, “You know what? I am; I'm a nationalist, okay.“But you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides.”Professor Carolyn Gallaher at American University believes this rhetoric has consequences.“In white supremacist circles, they took this to mean this person supports us and we have a champion in the White House and we can fight for a white America.”The president and his administration deny he intentionally incites violence. 1475
