SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Convoy Street already seems like its own neighborhood to many, always bustling with locals at its numerous Asian restaurants and shops.Thursday, community business leaders continued their efforts to put Convoy Street firmly on San Diego's map with a live mural painting art show.The mural, created by local artist Espa?a Garcia Feucht, covers the side of Cross Street Chicken and Beer and was painted live in tandem with Taiko drummers playing and other artists showcasing their work outside the restaurant. District 6 Councilmember Chris Cate was also in attendance to herald in the new neighborhood feature.RELATED: 10 must-eat restaurants on San Diego's Convoy StreetTommy Nguyen, owner of Cross Street, said the mural is just the first step in local efforts to get Convoy Street its own neighborhood sign, like ones currently over the Gaslamp Quarter and University Heights."Knowing that it'll take some time for the physical arch to go up, we decided to take matters into our own hands and put up a 'Welcome to Convoy' arch ourselves on our mural wall," Nguyen said. "I truly believe that Convoy is big enough to have it's own neighborhood arch."The mural features a rooster holding a beer (a tip of the hat to the region's craft beer scene and the restaurant the mural sits on) with the phrase "made in San Diego" underneath. I want people to recognize this mural eventually and say, 'oh yeah, that’s in Kearny Mesa.'"Our hope is to raise awareness enough for [people] who are not familiar with Kearny Mesa/Convoy to come to this area and explore for themselves." 2028

"We're seeing a lot more people shopping online because of stay-at-home orders and during holidays, it'll increase and it's something vital to your overall financial wellness."Bilyeu recommends shopping with websites and companies that you're familiar with or that you've already been a customer of in the past.And while it may seem simple to some, customers are also reminded to avoid clicking on unfamiliar links or opening emails they don't expect. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Coronavirus hospitalizations in San Diego continue to climb, prompting at least one medical system to begin plans to accommodate a surge in patients.As of Thursday, Scripps Health reported that it had 126 COVID-19 patients, up one patient from Wednesday. It also reported two coronavirus-related deaths in 24 hours. Scripps Health is moving forward with its virus patient surge plan by hiring more staff and converting more beds.“We've been staffing up dramatically and our engineers have been preparing for surge which we anticipate [requiring] given the direction hospitalizations are going in San Diego,” says Scripps Health CEO Chris Van Gorder.He says the majority of patients are still in the South Bay hospitals. Their teams have been transferring patients from Scripps Chula Vista and Scripps Mercy to the northern hospitals to avoid reaching capacity in the ICUs.“Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla is 95% occupied in the Intensive Care Unit and Mercy San Diego is 91% [occupied],” he adds.The number of positive tests in the northern hospitals is also rising, he says. “About three days ago, we had six patients within a 24-hour period of time [that had] to be admitted at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas and so their census has doubled over the last week,” he added.San Diego County reported on Wednesday that over a several-week span, hospitalizations were down but had increased in the past two weeks with the most recent daily count being 38 new admissions on Tuesday.The County’s statistics show that we are still far off from reaching bed-capacity.The federal field hospital set up at Palomar Hospital in Escondido continues to sit empty. A hospital spokesperson reported that there's no current plan that they're aware of to use it.According to Palomar Health, “We have seen an increase in patients over the last three-four weeks. Our Emergency Department Director says we have seen a noticeable increase in younger patients (20-30 year olds). SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - City leaders announced a new overnight parking lot on Tuesday for people living in their vehicles.It comes a day before the city committee on Safety and Livable Neighborhoods will vote on a new ordinance that would create restrictions on vehicle habitation.Living in a vehicle has been legal since a federal judge filed an injunction against the city’s law last August, saying it was too vague.The new ordinance would restrict living in vehicles within 500 feet of a school or residence at all hours of the day. It would also make it illegal to live in a vehicle from 6 pm to 6 am anywhere in the city, except in the approved lots. “The city cannot solve the problem, so their tactic is, “let’s hide it,’“ said Caesar, a man who lives in his van and wished to withhold his last name because he is currently looking for a job.He said he used to have a stable living situation but fell on hard times after paying for his two kids college tuition. Then he lost his job. “They offered to help me, but I said ‘no,’ I don’t want to be a boulder in your life.”Caesar said, he may end up using the new city parking lot in Mission Valley, but he worries that if the new ordinance passes, he still may be ticketed by police.“The tactic is, let’s load them with citations,” speculated Caesar. 1308
