Millions in Northern California saw apocalyptic orange skies this week as massive wildfires burn through the region.Phoenix native Kristen Marin and her family live 2.5 hours north of San Francisco in Mendocino County, while the Oak Fire is burning near them."It feels a little like doomsday," said Marin. "It felt like it was night all during the day time. The air quality was awful. The crickets were chirping. The floodlights were on, thinking it was dark. Everything is covered in ash. It smells like smoke. You'd think that you were in a fireplace," said Marin. On Thursday, the Oak Fire was 25% contained.Luckily, Marin's family hasn't been told to evacuate."You're just on notice, all the time you're wondering if it's going to be your community or your address that pops up on the alert," said Marin.According to the California Department of Fires and Forestry Protection, there are about 14,000 firefighters on the line of 29 major wildfires burning across the state.Tait Mitton is leading a team of four from the Arizona Fire and Medical Authority. They're on a two-week mission northeast of Fresno working night shifts on the Creek Fire in the Sierra National Forest."Our responsibility is life safety. Making sure everyone is evacuated from the area, also protecting structures, houses, cabins," said Mitton. The Creek Fire has burned more than 175,000 acres and destroyed hundreds of homes and is 0% contained."Right now California---the firefighters over here --they're working really hard, they're overtaxed right now, we're going to do everything we can to help and help the community," said Mitton.Mitton said compared to desert fires, the vegetation in the Sierra National Forest makes it harder to contain the flames since there are more trees than burn hotter for longer. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd on Wednesday announced the arrests of three suspects in connection to a group of friends murdered during a fishing trip in Florida on Friday. Damion Tillman, 23, Keven Springfield, 30, and Brandon Rollins, 27, were all killed while fishing in unincorporated Frostproof on July 17. The sheriff's office arrested Tony "TJ" Wiggins, 26, his girlfriend Mary Whittemore, 27, and Tony's brother William "Robert" Wiggins, 21, in relation to the murders. Judd described Tony as "pure evil in the flesh" and said he has 230 previous felony charges. According to a press release, the sheriff's office found a Dollar General bag at the crime scene with a receipt from that day of the crime. Detectives went to the store and reviewed surveillance footage. The release says one of the victims, Damion Tillman, was seen in the video along with all of the suspects. According to the release, the cashier said Tillman was a regular at the store and mentioned that he was going fishing that night. The clerk told detectives the suspects heard Tillman say he was going fishing and that "Keven" would be there with him. Keven Springfield, 30, was another of the victims. The clerk heard the suspects talk about what they heard among themselves, the release says. Detectives said they also received tips that one of the suspects might be Tony Wiggins. On Monday, the sheriff's office served a search warrant on a piece of land in Lake Wales where the suspects were living. Tony and Whittemore lived in one travel trailer on the property and William lived in another trailer on the same property. During the search, detectives found two SKS rifles, two Mossberg shotguns and ammunition for both in a gun safe belonging to Tony. Tony was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. Detectives also found ammunition during the search and compared it to shell casings from the crime scene. The ammo was sent to the FDLE and testing showed that it was the same as that fired from a Smith & Wesson handgun the night of the murders, according to a press release. Detectives say Whittemore bought the ammo found at the scene for Tony in Lake Wales on July 9. According to the release, the two are seen in surveillance video from the store and detectives found a receipt that confirmed the purchase. When all three suspects were interviewed, detectives say their stories contradicted each other. Whittemore admitted to buying the ammo and being with the brothers the night of the murder but didn't make any additional statements, according to authorities. When William Wiggins was interviewed again, detectives said he admitted to seeing Tillman, one of the victims, in the store. William told detectives when they left the store, his brother Tony directed him to turn onto a specific road instead of going home. According to authorities, while on the road two trucks that were occupied by the three victims passed the brothers. Tony told his brother to make a U-turn and follow them, according to authorities. William told detectives they followed the trucks to the crime scene area and that he stayed in the truck while his brother Tony got out and confronted Keven Springfield. According to a press release, Tony punched Springfield and accused him of stealing his truck. The release says the other two victims, Brandon Rollins and Damion Tillman, got out of their truck and Tony continued to yell at all of them. William told detectives he watched as his brother Tony shot all three victims, according to the sheriff's office. Judd said during a press conference on Wednesday that Tony shot the victims several times, the exact number is still being investigated. Sheriff Grady provides triple murder update | Press Conference Tony and his brother then picked up Tillman and threw him into the back of one of the trucks. After the murders, Judd said the three suspects drove to McDonald's and ordered 10 double cheeseburgers, and two McChicken sandwiches. They then went home and the next day William took his truck to a car wash to clean clay from it. The sheriff's office said on Saturday that one of the victims, Rollins, called his dad for help from the scene. When his dad got there, he found his son barely alive. Sheriff Judd said the victim's dad drove to a close-by gas station to call 911. Deputies responded and found all three victims dead. "This is a horrific scene, I've been to a lot of murder scenes in my life and this ranks among the worst I've been to," Judd said on Saturday. The three suspects are facing the following charges. Tony Wiggins First degree murder (Capital felony)Tampering with evidence (F-3)Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (F-2)Possession of ammunition by a convicted felon (F-2)William Wiggins Tampering with evidence (F-3)Accessory after the fact of capital felony (F1)Mary WhittemoreAccessory after the fact of capital felony (F1)All three suspects have first appearance hearings at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 23. Three Metro-North Railroad workers have been suspended for turning a storage room under Manhattan's Grand Central Terminal into an unauthorized “man cave” with a television, a refrigerator, a microwave, a futon couch and more.A Metropolitan Transportation Authority Inspector General investigation found that Metro-North managers were unaware of the hideaway in a storage room located behind a locked door, beneath Track 114.Railroad officials said Thursday that a wireman, a carpenter foreman and an electrical foreman have been suspended without pay pending disciplinary hearings.Inside the room, investigators found personal property and evidence that implicated the three employees. This included a receipt with the wireman's name on it, a streaming device connected to a hotspot associated with the carpenter foreman's phone, personal calendars, and a pull-up bar with a shipping sticker reading the name of the electrical foreman. The Office of the MTA Inspector General launched the investigation after learning of complaints about the room from anonymous tips, the MTA said.Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi released the following statement Thursday: The behavior described in the IG’s report is outrageously inappropriate and is not consistent with Metro-North’s values and the commitment that we have to providing safe, reliable and cost-efficient service to our customers. All three employees were immediately suspended without pay and are being disciplined in accordance with their collective bargaining agreements. Officials said the hidden space presented a fire hazard because rescue workers would have had difficulty accessing an unmapped room. Police released new details late Tuesday afternoon about a dog owner who gunned down two people inside a Port St. Lucie home the day before.Investigators said Guy Alexander Hansman, 55, and his daughter, Harper Hansman, 11, were shot and killed by their neighbor, identified as Ronald Delserro, 82, at a home on Monday.According to police, the violence stemmed from a dispute over the gunman's dog, a bull mastiff named Roxy. Earlier on Monday, the animal had been declared dangerous in court."They all came home from court and then the suspect armed himself and went to the victim's house," St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara said at a news conference.Authorities said that after police officers and deputies arrived at the scene on Monday, they entered the home and exchanged gunfire with Delserro, who was armed with two handguns. An officer was shot in the arm and was treated at the hospital and later released.A SWAT Team later discovered Delserro dead inside the house, according to police. It's unclear how he died.In a truly tragic development, police said Harper Hansman was the person who called 911 before her death.According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, the feud dated back to March 4, when Delserro's bull mastiff attacked and bit a woman who lived at the victims' home. That eventually led to a court hearing in which the animal was declared dangerous."I believe this to be an intentional act of violence against these neighbors," said Port St. Lucie Assistant Police Chief Richard DelToro on Monday. "It's tragic. You can't rationalize irrational behavior."On Tuesday, 24 hours after the violent and tragic attack, crime scene investigators continued processing the scene. Around 12 p.m., Port St. Lucie Animal Control arrived and officers appeared to take an animal away from the community.A contractor said he saw the gunman's wife just moments after the shots rang out."She said, 'I hope he didn’t do something stupid,'" Ray Layfield said. Port St Lucie Animal Control just pulled up as well. We have been told they are not currently commenting on the investigation or ongoing dispute about the dog. @WPTV @FOX29WFLX pic.twitter.com/qpw7deJebQ— Ryan Hughes (@HughesWPTV) July 7, 2020 Police said several officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.
