Rocker Neil Young is “reconsidering” an earlier decision not to legally challenge the Trump administration for using his music at events. In an open letter from Young posted to NeilYoungArchives.com, he says he changed his mind following the decision to send federal forces to Portland.“Trump has no respect for our Military. They are not to be used on the streets of America against law abiding citizens for a Political charade orchestrated by a challenged President,” the open letter reads.Young considered requesting the Trump campaign to stop playing his songs after the president used it to announce his presidential bid in 2015. At the time, Young and his manager said the song was used without authorization. But ultimately they decided not to pursue legal action.Attendees at the July 3 event at Mount Rushmore tweeted about the use of Young’s music at the event ahead of President Trump’s speech. Young responded "This is NOT ok with me” in retweeting the mentions. 981

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGTV) - A California Assemblymember wants to make horse racing safer and prevent deaths on the track.Assemblymember Ash Kalra (D-27) says it's the only way to ensure the sport's survival in the state."I think whether you're a race fan or not, everything we can do to protect the horses, while protecting the sanctity of the sport as well, is important," says Kalra. His proposal, Assembly Bill 2177, would create sweeping changes to the way horses are cared for at the tracks. Among the most notable changes, all large tracks would be required to have CT Scans on site. Kalra says this will help get more accurate diagnoses of injuries. The bill would also require tracks to have on-site pharmacies, and trainers could only give medicine from those pharmacies to the horses. Veterinarians would also be prohibited from carrying medicine to the tracks."If you mask injuries, you risk greater injury," he says. "So we want to make sure that medications are being prescribed that actually deal with specific injuries, they're not performance enhancing and they're not being used to mask an injury just to get a horse out on a track when it's not ready."The bill requires the immediate suspension of any trainer who has a horse die on the track, pending an investigation. It also gives the California Horse Racing Board the authority to suspend or revoke a trainer's license for repeat violations of medication regulations. The bill is sponsored by PETA and the animal rights group Social Compassion in Legislation. In a statement, PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo says "Horse racing shouldn't come with a death toll, and this legislation can help to make sure it doesn't."Judie Mancuso, the President of Social Compassion in Legislation told 10News that this bill can be a good compromise between the industry and people who want to see the sport eliminated."A lot of it is just common sense," says Mancuso. "If horse racing is to exist in California, there has to be zero tolerance for fatalities."Horse deaths were a major problem in California in 2019. Santa Anita saw 44 horses die at the track since December of 2018. The Del Mar race track had a handful of deaths during its Bing Crosby fall season.Kalra says Del Mar has been a leader in horse safety and the rest of the state should look to them for best practices."Del Mar is actually one of the safer tracks and that's something we want to look at," he says. "Why is it safer? We can learn a lot by what's happening at your local track and hopefully these rules and regulations will be able to encapsulate some of the good things happening in the industry as well."Officials from Del Mar declined to go on camera, but released a statement to 10News about Assembly Bill 2177. In it, they say:"The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (DMTC) is committed to working with the legislature and equine experts to ensure the safest possible environment for California's horses and riders. In 2017, DMTC began a series of industry-leading reforms which resulted in Del Mar being ranked as the safest racetrack in North American in both 2018 and 2019. As a founding member of the national Thoroughbred Safety Coalition, DMTC continues to work with industry stakeholders to advocate for and implement the highest standards of safety and welfare for our equine and human athletes."Critics of the bill say it will ruin the industry in California, as trainers and owners who don't want to abide by the new rules will choose to race in other states instead. Kalra believes that if California adopts the new rules, the rest of the country will follow."California needs to do what's in the best interest of Californians," he says. "I think once we do that and other states see how we're doing it, they'll want to work with us and really create a standard that can be used nationally."The bill is scheduled for a hearing in the House Government Oversight Committee on March 13th. 3943

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The California Legislature has sent a bill to Gov. Gavin Newsom that would let counties offer fewer in-person voting options as they hold the November election in the midst of the pandemic. Newsom has already signed a law requiring counties to mail ballots to voters ahead of the Nov. 3 election. County election officials are having trouble securing enough polling places because of the pandemic. California continues to have problems with missing data on virus infections throughout California. State officials have acknowledged California has been undercounting virus cases due to a technical issue with a database used to collect test information from labs. 695

Roseanne Barr apologized after a bizarre, racist Twitter rant Tuesday morning, and then announced she's "now leaving Twitter." Following the rant, one of the show's consulting producers, Wanda Sykes, said she's done with the show."I will not be returning to @RoseanneOnABC," Sykes tweeted. Her announcement came just minutes before ABC announced that it is canceling "Roseanne."Earlier on Tuesday, Bar tweeted an apology to Valerie Jarrett and "all Americans.""I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks,"Barr tweeted. "I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste." Barr then said she's leaving Twitter. The star of ABC's hit reboot of "Roseanne" wrote early Tuesday morning, "Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj." Barr was responding to a comment about Jarrett, a top former aide to president Obama. She later deleted the tweet.CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski responded to Roseanne on Twitter about the Jarrett comment, which she replied was "a joke."Social media immediately lit up with criticism of both Barr and ABC, with some demanding a response from the broadcast network. ABC has not replied to CNNMoney's request for comment. In the past, ABC executives have privately said that they hold their noses when Barr tweets. They know some of her posts have been problematic -- full of pro-Trump conspiracy theories that mislead her fans. The executives want Barr to focus on her show. But they seem to take the position that there's no controlling Barr, and that's what makes her the successful comic she is.ABC employees shared these views on condition of anonymity earlier this year, before the current Twitter controversy.Barr also made comments on Twitter about Chelsea Clinton, tweeting, "Chelsea Soros Clinton." She later replied in the comments that Clinton is "married to Soros nephew." Soros is a billionaire liberal benefactor who has been the subject to many right-wing conspiracy theories over the years.Clinton responded to Barr shortly after."Good morning Roseanne - my given middle name is Victoria. I imagine George Soros's nephews are lovely people. I'm just not married to one," she wrote.Barr responded back to Clinton saying, "Sorry to have tweeted incorrect info about you! Please forgive me!"She then continued, "By the way, George Soros is a nazi who turned in his fellow Jews 2 be murdered in German concentration camps & stole their wealth-were you aware of that? But, we all make mistakes, right Chelsea?"This conspiracy theory about Soros has been debunked many times. The fact-checking site Snopes called it "false" back in 2016.Roseanne's rant is nothing new to those who follow the sitcom star on Twitter. The star bred controversy on the site before. The premiere of Roseanne's reboot was one of the highest-rated new shows of the season, and Barr is one of the network's biggest stars, if not its biggest. However, after the huge debut, which brought in more than 18 million live viewers, the show saw its audience come back down to earth. Its finale, which aired last week, nabbed roughly 10 million viewers.MSNBC's "Morning Joe" host, Joe Scarborough, was critical of ABC on Twitter following the rant."Hey @ABC, Roseanne Barr compared Valerie Jarrett to an ape. There is no apology she can make that justifies @ABC turning a blind eye to this bigotry by airing another second of her show," he tweeted. "Even in the Age of Trump, there are red lines that can never be crossed. This is one."Others like civil rights activist DeRay Mckesson called on the network to cancel the show.".@ABC, how desperate are you to profit from Roseanne's racism? We know racism sells in this country, it always has. But you don't have to participate in it," he tweeted. "This apology is meaningless. Cancel Roseanne."The-CNN-Wire 3823

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — People putting their “I Voted” stickers on women’s suffrage leader Susan B. Anthony’s headstone will see something new this year: a plastic cover. Her headstone, in a cemetery in Rochester, New York, now has a shield to prevent further degradation to the marble from the stickers’ glue and the cleaners used to remove the stickers. The sticker trend became popular on Election Day 2016, when as many as 12,000 people visited the cemetery where Anthony is buried.A spring restoration effort had revealed the damage done to the marble marker. This year, WHAM reports that city officials have also marked off a pathway for visitor to follow so they don’t disrupt other gravesites. It’s one way and visitors are asked to maintain 6 feet of social distancing. 782
