LAKELAND, Fla. — An 85-year-old man was bitten by an alligator at a retirement community Monday afternoon, FWC says.Officials say the alligator was 9-feet-9-inches and trappers pulled it out of a pond Monday afternoon.It happened at the Cypress Lakes Retirement Community.The man was reportedly bitten on the foot and taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where the extent of his injuries are not known at this time.The community posted on its Facebook page about the incident and reminded residents about safety around alligators.Jane Rickel lives here and says trappers found the man’s white sneaker in the gator’s mouth confirming they got the right one.“His wife heard him screaming supposedly. (KGTV) — Police arrested one person and rearrested another person this week in connection with looting in La Mesa following police protests last month.Both arrests were made without incident and for burglary during an emergency on May 30 during rioting in the East County city, according to La Mesa Police:On June 10, 26-year-old Helen Tewolde was arrested on suspicion of looting Sally’s Beauty Supply on May 30. An anonymous tip was submitted to police after video that appeared to show Tewolde at the scene looting appeared on social media, LMPD said.On June 11, 25-year-old Rey Estrada-Silva was arrested on suspicion of looting the Verizon store and Target in Grossmont Shopping Center on May 30. Estrada-Silva was previously arrested last week on suspicion on looting Play It Again Sports and was out on bail during Thursday's arrest, LMPD said.As night set on May 30, protests outside LMPD's headquarters turned chaotic, after vandals set fires to numerous buildings and vehicles. (KGTV) - An Uber driver says she was physically assaulted by a passenger Sunday night in La Mesa after a dispute over a mask."This is definitely the most insane experience driving with Uber that I've ever had," said Tia.Just past 6 p.m. Sunday, Tia, who first started driving for Uber last summer, arrived for a pickup outside the Echo Pointe apartments.Tia says a man and the passenger's sister ushered the passenger into the car with a warning for Tia: the passenger was drunk."She didn't have a mask on ... so I asked her if she could please put on a spare mask, which I had in the back seat. Took her awhile to put it on, but she did," said Tia.As the ride got started, Tia says her passenger wouldn't let it go."She said in a very snarky tone, 'Are you more comfortable now that I have a mask on?' She was very drunk, very belligerent, yelling," said Tia.Tia say she decided to end the ride."I was fed up with the disrespect," said Tia.Tia says she returned to the pickup spot and asked her to get out repeatedly, but the woman refused. Tia recorded some of it on her phone. Tia, who eventually called 911, says when she got out of the car and reached in to remove the woman's belongings, the passenger grabbed her neck from behind.According to Tia, the passenger became violent, chasing her around the car for several minutes, at one point hitting in the right eye. Tia says the passenger's sister and the man came out and subdued the woman, allowing Tia to drive away, and meet police and file a report."I was dumbfounded. I couldn’t believe I was assaulted for essentially wearing a mask ... People need to treat each other with respect. Wear a mask ... We're just trying to keep everybody safe," said Tia.Tia says she's still feeling pain in her eye but she's feeling better. (KGTV) — East County residents say they're behind a local dog rescue's efforts to provide for canines, but that the facility has been operating dangerously.Suzy Avalos lives next door to the Happy Hearts German Shepherd Rescue, which is run out of a La Mesa home. She tells 10News the dogs that reside in the yard have had no problem jumping the fence."You see the fence is not high. It's right up here. The dogs don't have a problem jumping over this fence," Avalos said. "They're out of control and she should not have a license."The woman who runs the dog rescue, Donna, declined an interview by 10News.
