OAK PARK, Mich. — The city of Oak Park, Michigan will host its annual Boo Bash Halloween event next Wednesday, but they are not allowing anyone to come as a clown.On the event page, the city says people can bring children in their favorite Halloween costumes, collect candy down the trick-or-treat street and enjoy cider and donuts. They also say that clown costumes are not allowed.Oak Park Recreation Director Laurie Stasiak told the Oakland County Times the ban stems from fear and anxiety over clowns for some children."In the past few years, many clown costumes have been given a very scary and evil look. Many scary and horror movies are centered around these types of characters. (KGTV) — Police Saturday released a sketch of man who they say grabbed a 16-year-old in a "bear hug" and tried to kidnap her on her way to school.The teenager was walking to El Camino High School on Thursday just before 7:30 a.m. when the suspect walked past her on Mesa Drive, Oceanside Police say. As the two crossed paths, the suspect turned around and grabbed her in a "bear hug." OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A U.S. Marine Corps truck caught fire on northbound Interstate 5 in Oceanside Friday afternoon, backing up traffic on the busy freeway. Witnesses reported the military vehicle on fire with small explosions about 1 p.m., according to Oceanside Fire Division Chief Pete Lawrence. Two Marines were in the truck when “they heard a loud bang and immediately saw smoke and fire in the rear of the cab,” Lawrence said. The troops escaped without injury. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) — After a decade of delays, the Oceanside Beach Resort is weeks away from construction.The initial approval for the project happened 13 years ago when the City of Oceanside selected the developer. The project is located near the small white beach home featured in the movie Top Gun. 10News talked with Senior Vice President of S.D. Malkin Properties, Jeremy Cohen, who said they ran into many roadblocks along the way."We faced a lawsuit, we won, it was appealed, and we won that, and that kind of brought us to where we are today," said Cohen.The lawsuit claimed the program the city uses to share hotel taxes and support the development violated the state constitution. Along with a drawn-out lawsuit, they also were pushed back by the Great Recession and a period of delays in redevelopment across California.Cohen tells 10News, “Although it had been done dozens of times in the state before, it was the first time it was challenged. The court found it was completely constitutional, completely acceptable, and so it just delayed us for three years."Construction is now set to start in December 2018, just before the new year. “There will be a couple of months of excavation; then you’ll see a concrete superstructure, about six or seven stories,” Cohen detailed.The parking for the beach resort will be relocated to an underground garage. As far as the Top Gun house is concerned, it will be completely taken off the property.
