CAIRO, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Saturday met Arab League Secretary General Amr Musa and expressed China's willingness to further its cooperation with the Arab countries by enriching the contents of the China-Arab friendly cooperation. The Chinese premier met the Arab League secretary general at the league's headquarters in Cairo.     "Under the current international political and economic circumstances which are undergoing profound and complicated changes, it is in the interests of both China and the Arab countries to strengthen cooperation which contributes toward world peace, stability and development," the Chinese premier said.     Wen told Musa that China is willing to pool efforts with the Arab League and Arab countries to render the China-Arab Cooperation Forum into a more effective platform which will result in more progress. ASHGABAT, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov agreed here Sunday to continually advance bilateral cooperation in an all-round and sustainable way.     The Chinese president, who arrived here earlier in the day for a working visit, held talks with Berdymukhamedov in Ashgabat, capital of this Central Asia nation in the afternoon.     Hu said the Chinese and Turkmen economies are highly complementary to each other, and bilateral cooperation in all dimensions and various fields accords with the needs of economic development of both countries.     Hu outlined four areas that the two countries should focus on to advance practical cooperation. Despite the changes in international situation, the Turkmen government and people will always firmly push forward cooperation with China, he said.     Berdymukhamedov spoke highly of the rapid growth of bilateral trade in recent years, saying China has become one of the biggest trade partners to Turkmenistan.     Despite the impacts of international financial crisis, trade between China and Turkmenistan increased 135.5 percent in 2008 and38.7 percent in the first 10 months of 2009.     Berdymukhamedov said Chinese companies have made investment in oil and gas, transportation and other sectors in Turkmenistan and won respect of Turkmen companies.     He said the China-Central Asia natural gas pipeline is an example of sincere cooperation under the strategic partnership of the two countries. He said the project is not only in the long-term interests of both countries and their peoples, but is also conducive to maintaining stability of the global energy market.     President Hu will fly to the border town of Turkmenabad Monday to attend a ceremony to inaugurate a natural gas pipeline linking China, Kazakstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.     Berdymukhamedov said that under the new circumstance the two countries share a broad prospect of cooperation in all areas. BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), on Tuesday urged political advisors to contribute their wisdom to China's social and economic development.     Political advisors should watch closely the domestic and international economic situations and problems that China had in the process of development and put forward wise and pragmatic solutions, Jia said.     He urged political advisors at all levels to carry out in-depth study on the key issues including macro-economic policy, environmental protection, public resource distribution and reform of the income system.     Jia made the remarks at a chairman's meeting of the CPPCC National Committee.

BEIJING, Jan. 10 -- Shanghai has set a GDP growth rate target for the year of more than 8 percent, almost the same as 2009's economic development rate.     Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng yesterday announced the target at a one-day session of the Shanghai Committee of the Communist Party of China.     He added the growth rate of value-added output from the service industry should be much higher than the GDP rate.     The city didn't set a higher GDP goal because it wanted to put more effort into restructuring the economy than simply seeking more GDP growth, Yu told the meeting.     The city's GDP growth was estimated to be more than 8 percent last year, a little lower than the average national level. Total retail sales of consumer goods rose by about 14 percent and growth of fixed assets investment was around 10 percent in 2009.     Yu said the targeted rate was a suitable development speed for Shanghai, which was hit by the global financial crisis during its economic restructure transition.     He told the session that the World Expo 2010 Shanghai was the most important task for the government this year.     It requires not only coordination of all districts and departments but also active participation and devotion by citizens, he said.     "We should spare no efforts to ensure a successful, wonderful and unforgettable Expo," he said.     "We should make full use of the opportunity to stimulate investment and consumption, enhance friendly cooperation with the world and build a city with international influence."     Yu emphasized the importance of security during Expo. He requested government officials to strengthen anti-terrorism efforts, guarantee food and drug safety and quality, and keep monitoring and preventing public health events, such as outbursts of swine flu.     To enhance transport during Expo, the government will continue a series of infrastructure works. More Metro lines and cross-river projects will be completed this year.     Construction of the Bund, Shanghai-Nanjing inter-city railway and the Hongqiao transport hub are planned to be finished this year.     Yu stressed that government officials should consider people's interests at all time and listen to their advices. He said the government should reduce impact on life during Expo as much as possible.     Also, Yu said regulation and control in the real estate market will be improved to help it develop in a healthy and sustainable way. And 500,000 new jobs will be created to keep the unemployment rate around 4.5 percent.
