Facebook has removed dozens of fake accounts, pages and Instagram accounts “linked to Roger Stone and his associates” that they believe were involved in spreading disinformation to American users of the social media channels.“The people behind this activity used fake accounts — some of which had already been detected and disabled by our automated systems — to pose as residents of Florida, post and comment on their own content to make it appear more popular than it is, evade enforcement, and manage Pages,” Facebook said in a posted statement.Facebook says they removed 54 Facebook accounts, 50 pages and 4 Instagram accounts connected to this coordinated network. The accounts and pages were most active between 2015 and 2017. According to Facebook, the majority of these accounts have been unused since then."In each case, the people behind this activity coordinated with one another and used fake accounts as a central part of their operations to mislead people about who they are and what they are doing, and that was the basis for our action," Facebook said.The fake accounts posted content about Florida politics, the 2016 political candidates, hacked materials released by Wikileaks ahead of the 2016 election, in addition to the Roger Stone trial, and other information about Roger Stone and his pages, websites, books and appearances.Stone, an ally of President Trump, was convicted on seven counts including lying to congress and obstructing the House investigation into any coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia ahead of the 2016 election.Earlier this year, the FBI unsealed records that showed Stone bought hundreds of fake Facebook pages in 2016. The records said, according to Business Insider, Stone used the fake accounts to share news articles to damage political rivals and to defend himself against charges.In Wednesday’s statement from Facebook, they said these records helped their investigation. “We identified the full scope of this network following the recent public release of search warrants pertaining to the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.”The removed accounts linked to Roger Stone and associates had about 260,000 unique followers on Facebook and 61,5000 unique followers on Instagram.Facebook also announced three other networks operating dozens of other pages who were identified as “violating our policy against foreign interference and coordinated inauthentic behavior.” The other networks were operating in Ukraine, Canada, Ecuador and Brazil.Below are posts from the now-removed pages: 2564

(KGTV) - The 'Golden State Killer' arrest is shining the spotlight on a controversial DNA search known as Familial DNA.    In the summer of 2013, local communities were gripped by fear amid a string of unspeakable crimes.An unknown culprit dubbed 'The Creeper' entered five homes in Escondido and one in San Marcos, cutting screens, cutting the clothes of little girls and molesting them while they slept.The suspect left DNA at several scenes, but a search turned up no matches.  Ultimately the case went cold until detectives applied to the State Department of Justice - for a DNA familial search.In 2015, the mystery DNA profile was linked to somebody already in the system, a close relative of the suspect."They were able to determine through a familial search who the suspect likely was," said Deputy District Attorney Ryan Saunders.That suspect was Gilbert Chavarria, who recently pleaded guilty to a host of charges.  He was sentenced to 100 years to life in prison."Police did an excellent job gathering the evidence, but the leads were exhausted. Without the familial searches, we'd still be on our hands waiting," said Saunders.It marked the first use of the search in a local case.  Amid concerns from privacy advocates, Governor Brown in 2008 enacted a policy that familial DNA would be used only as a last resort.It's been rarely used but did provide the break in several serial killer cases, including the 'Grim Sleeper' case and now, the 'Golden State Killer' case.  In the latter, the mystery DNA was linked to a familial profile from an ancestry website.Some law enforcement experts tell 10News the recent cases could lead to a lot more requests for the DNA search.  Familial DNA also provided the break in the infamous 'BTK' serial killer case in Kansas. 1858

Employees at the Buffalo Museum of Science found something they didn't know they had in their collection.According to Kathy Leacock, director of collections, that isn't difficult to do considering that the museum has over "700,000 items in their collection."What they found was an egg from the now extinct Elephant Bird. It's huge to say the least, weighing 3 1/2 pounds. The egg was not really lost, it was just thought to be a model or a replica. That's how it had been mislabeled for many years. "We found in our documentary evidence that's it's been here since 1939," Leacock said. There are only a handful of the rare eggs in existence.The Elephant Bird is believed to have gone extinct around the 17th century. FALLBROOK, Calif. (KGTV) – The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting in Fallbrook that left a person dead late Thursday night.The shooting was reported at around 10:30 p.m. in the 600 block of South Vine Street.Responding deputies arrived to find a person suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The shooting victim, who was not identified, was declared dead at the scene.Investigators are trying to determine the events that led up to the shooting.A description of the suspected shooter was not immediately available. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - Felicita County Park is just south of Escondido and is one of the largest and oldest parks in San Diego County. It’s named after a Native American woman who helped preserve history more than a century ago.Dove Toler is a San Pasqual Tribal Council member and has studied the rich Native American history of his own tribe, writing a book about his family’s past, and the history of the surrounding San Diego area. He said one of the most unique factors about Felicita LaChappa was the information she possessed.Toler said it’s estimated that LaChappa was born around 1820 during the Mexican era. He said during this era, Native people were dealing with the invasions of many different other cultures in addition to battling disease, so it’s incredible that she survived this period. This gave a window into a time period that many did not remember or live through.“She was able to survive, she didn’t get the diseases, she was able to marry, she was able to prosper in a sense that she survived,” he said, adding that, “Felicita survived during that turbulent time, those that were here were able to photograph her, interview her and now in honor of her, name this beautiful park after Felicita.”The park’s property was bought by San Diego County in 1929 and was named after LaChappa to honor her. To this day, there are still holes in some large rocks, evidence of the Native American people who once lived there. Toler estimates those artifacts to be 3,000 or 4,000 years old.Tolder added that the county has done a good job of adding signage around the park to educate the public on the history of LaChappa and the other Native Americans who once lived there. 1696
