CINCINNATI -- A Lebanon Correctional Institution inmate was sentenced to three years in federal prison for mailing threatening letters to President Donald Trump and other federal officials, authorities announced Monday.Rodney D. Cydrus, 48, mailed a total of five letters in January 2017 to the FBI and Federal Public Defender's Office threatening to injure them, federal judges and the president, according to court documents.In one letter, Cydrus wrote that he wanted to "go out with a bang" by killing or kidnapping a federal agent."As soon as I get out I’m going to get everybody I can in your office…Die Die Die…I promise my word I’ll get at least 30 of you before you kill me," one letter states.One letter also included a powder that turned out to be Cydrus' own medication, causing a HAZMAT response. "The federal officials whom Cydrus targeted have hard enough jobs as it is," U.S. Attorney Benjamin Glassman said in a news release. "Disrupting operations and creating an atmosphere of fear is a serious offense, and it’s important to deter this kind of intimidation campaign."Cydrus was an inmate at Lebanon Correctional Institution in Warren County at the time he sent the letters.A federal grand jury indicted Cydrus in February 2017. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a Christopher Columbus statue was vandalized in Chula Vista Sunday. According to police, officers were called to Discovery Park around noon after neighbors reported that someone poured red paint over the statue. When officers arrived they also found the words “genocide” and “FU” spray painted onto the figure. A brass plaque that used to be attached to the statue was also missing. Police say they believe the vandalism happened overnight Saturday. Crews from the city responded quickly to clean the statue.As of Sunday afternoon, police say they don't have a suspect description, but added that the investigation is ongoing. 696

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Chula Vista City Council Tuesday approved a number of items to help people struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic. The city’s eviction moratorium was extended until at least July 31, giving renters relief if they cannot make their monthly rent payments.The council also approved a .5 million small business grant program to reimburse businesses for losses caused by the closures during the pandemic. The money comes from the federal government. Businesses can apply for the grant on the city’s website and must meet certain criteria. Some of the requirements include having less than 10 employees, being independently owned and not being an essential business.For businesses along Third Avenue, the relief is welcome. Chula Vista Brewery has moved their business outdoors and continued curbside pick-up to stay afloat during the pandemic.In a move to expand outdoor dining, Chula Vista’s council approved a permitting process to allow businesses on Third Avenue to expand into the public right of way, with social distancing and ADA compliance. This will allow for things like sidewalk and curb cafes.The city also authorized the closure of a portion of Third Avenue to traffic. (KGTV) — An upset truck owner is making a plea for tips after a man was recorded dousing his Toyota Tacoma with a destructive substance.On Falcon Peak Street in Otay Ranch, Marc Galvez stumbled upon a very odd sight when he went to his truck Monday night: A liquid he thought was a milkshake. "When I hosed it down, I could see the paint coming down. Just before 10 p.m., a man with "USA" written on the back of his shirt was recorded walking in the driveway, before walking away.
