It's a day Vasti Morris has been anticipating for over two decades.“This is the citizenship packet from immigration, so I became a citizen today,” she exclaims.Morris has been working towards getting her citizenship since she came to America 21 years ago as a refugee from West Africa. “Liberia, we had civil war for a very, very long time, and just somewhere where you didn't have to worry about if there's going to be a war or am I going to eat today,” she says. “So, it was a dream and that dream came true.”But going from refugee to student to U.S. citizen was a difficult journey.Immigration attorney Chirag Patel of Baltimore says the requirements for immigrants are changing almost daily, making the process longer and harder.“There are a lot of restrictions coming into play this fiscal year,” says Patel.After completing the N-400, the application for naturalization, and submitting it to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the government then takes a deep dive into your history through a long list of questions. Those questions include topics like criminal history, polygamy and deportation.“They really do scrutinize everything,” Patel says.After finally finishing the 20-page application, the screening process begins, and so does the waiting game. This application eventually ends up at a field office, where the applicant waits for an interview and a test.“It could take about a year before you get an interview,” Patel explains.In fact, a year is best case scenario, Patel says. And if you make a mistake on your application, you may have to start over.“We have to make sure we know everything to be able to get through this process properly,” he says.As for that test, Patel says, “You have to study for the civics exam and make sure you know all of the U.S. history and the political questions.”Even if an applicant makes it to the test portion, they could continue to wait up to four months to be approved.“A lot of people don't understand how difficult it is,” Morris says.Morris, who is a nurse studying for her PhD, can now add “American citizen" to her resume, which means she can vote.“I’m so excited,” she says gleefully. “November 6, I'm going to vote.”It’s a day Morris says she’ll never forget, as she reflects on the struggles it took to finally get her citizenship.“I didn't know I was going to be emotional,” she says. “It’s just knowing that this moment is finally here.”It was a drudging path to a dream--one she says was worth every second. 2518

When she woke up Saturday morning, Webster says she had an email from Kohl's saying the order was canceled because the item was sold out. Instead of canceling the order immediately and returning her funds, Webster said Kohl's tried to re-charge for the item, which was still out of stock.  592

INDIANAPOLIS — It has been quite a journey for Kari Wegg.She had been working tirelessly as a NICU nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for more than 25 years when she found herself fighting for her own life with COVID-19 in that very same hospital.“It’s devastating. I never thought something like this could happen to me,” Wegg said. “It’s been so hard because I was healthy, and I thought if I ever got it, I would be fine.”Wegg first got sick in June and diagnosed with pneumonia. Then in July, she, her husband and two children tested positive for the coronavirus.“I do work in a hospital,” she said. “My husband also works in a hospital. It’s very possible we got it from the hospital.”Her family had mild symptoms and recovered quickly. However, Wegg did not.“It’s been since July since I’ve seen my boys., and I haven’t been able to hug them or love on them, and they miss me so much,” Wegg said.Wegg was put on a heart and lung bypass machine on Aug. 19. She says her doctors discussed removing care.“Their dad had to sit down and tell them their mother might die, and they’ve had to try and cope with that,” she said.But Wegg says her husband wouldn’t give up. Calls were made, and she was transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago on Sept. 5 for a double lung transplant.Northwestern was the first hospital in the country to perform a double lung transplant on a COVID-19 paitnet, and Wegg was only the sixth such patient to undergo the surgery.“I am eternally grateful to the family of my donors,” Wegg said. “I don’t know anything about them or how they died but they gave me the gift of life.”Grateful to be alive, but devastated financially with non-stop medical bills, she suffers in her bed, while her fellow healthcare workers continue the fight. Wegg says she even has coworkers who have died of the virus.Wegg says she's praying that more people take the virus seriously."I’m hoping my message as a nurse who didn’t expect any of this can get out there and bring it home to people who don’t necessarily want to wear a mask or want to isolate themselves or quarantine," Wegg said. It’s hard to get friends together right now because of the coronavirus pandemic. That’s true of Friends characters, too. The iconic 90s show has teased a reunion for years, and it might be coming together soon.David Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller on the NBC comedy, told Jimmy Fallon the Friends are trying to get together in August.“It’s supposed to happen maybe in August, beginning of August. But honestly we’re going to wait and see another week or two to determine if it’s really safe,” Schwimmer said, adding they will wait if it’s not safe yet to get together.A Friends special has been anticipated by fans for years, and confirmed finally by HBO Max in February. Filming was put on pause because of the coronavirus pandemic.“It’s unscripted, it’s basically a really fun interview and some other surprise bits,” Schwimmer said of the special.During the interview with Fallon on The Tonight Show, Schwimmer recounted how he almost didn’t take the role of Ross. In the midst of a political battle over funding for the United States Postal Service, it appears the Department of Veterans Affairs has been looking into alternative delivery services.A veterans group called Disabled Vets of America posted a statement to their website explaining the situation, after they had approached the VA about concerns their members had shared.“The VA has now confirmed to us that the United States Postal Service (USPS), which is responsible for delivering about 90% of all VA mail order prescriptions, has indeed been delayed in delivering these critical medications by an average of almost 25% over the past year, with many locations experiencing much more significant delays,” the statement posted to the DAV’s website states.The VA acknowledged it was looking into delivery services outside the USPS in an email exchange with the DAV, according to CNN.“To help mitigate these postal delays, the VA has been forced to switch to alternative delivery services in a number of areas across the country and is taking other actions to expedite processing and delivery of prescriptions,” the statement from DAV reads.The VA has had an increase in demand for mail-order prescriptions during the coronavirus pandemic, they told CNN. Explaining that the VA has always used a “variety of prescription delivery methods to ensure timely delivery.”Spokesperson Christina Noel said they monitor prescription delivery times throughout the country. 1467
